hyped garbage
This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.
It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.
Through painfully honest and emotional moments, the movie becomes irresistibly relatable
When the movie first started making rounds, I remember many people made fun of the name. Everyone was wondering how a love story can be named Toilet. I was surprised to see the social message that came with this movie. Movie stars in India can reach a lot of different people through their works and this was one of the only times I had seen a big-ticket movie star attempt to create awareness about such a taboo topic. The delivery of the social message was done very effectively in this movie. Despite that, this movie is not without flaws. Pros first, the actors are really good in their respective roles. The script was mostly funny in the beginning, except for some clichéd jokes. The supporting characters also added to the movie. Especially the older family members of the lead characters. The chemistry between Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar was easy, but sometimes they seemed a little uncomfortable. The main cons for me were the unnecessary songs and the accompanying dance sequences. For a movie that primarily wants to deliver a moral, the movie has far too many songs. And the songs aren't even that good. The movie could have gone without having all the songs. The script was a little predictable at times but it was a good movie overall.
Overall movie is good. The message movie wants to give is really needful in India. Lots of people in India steel don't have Toilet in their home. Government wants to help but because of some corrupt officials people are away from toilet moreover illiteracy is big the cause. Good to watch this movie more important that women are raising their voice. Keep going women you will definitely win..
Toilet Ek Prem Katha has been promoted with so much hype, excellent reviews etc that I expected it to be a brilliant film. It is nice but .... I saw this movie a couple of days ago when it premiered on Zee Cinema HD. The dialogues are witty, the acting excellent, the sets realistic, cinematography exemplary. The storyline is unusually unique no doubt and socially this film sends a strong message, almost as if it is propaganda for the government's No Open Defecation campaign .... nothing wrong with that of course but at times, the propaganda angle came through a tad too much. The story stretched a bit and could have been cut short by at least 20 minutes. Perhaps it felt even more stretched because the advertisement breaks were on cue almost every 10 minutes ... certainly felt like that anyway! In summary, its an entertaining watchable film with a stellar cast and a good social message - will probably mop up quite a few awards for the social message alone. Not a brilliant film though, nor as good as Akshay Kumar's Jolly LLB-2.
Watched at Wembley. I have never reviewed before but let me just say that this film doesn't really belong to Akshay territory which women don't go. In other words this is an Akshay film that women will go along with! It's about you know the lack of convenience facilities in rural India as the other reviews have said. What I enjoyed is lack of ambition in this movie. It doesn't go wild suddenly and remains to its roots. Akshay is good, Bhumi is OK. Expect many such small town scripts of bigger stars in future.
