The Hero
Andrey Kulikov goes to Paris to visit the grave of his great-grandfather, Andrey Dolmatov, who had been an officer in the White Army during the Russian Revolution. On the headstone of the grave next to his great-grandfather's, he notices the face of a young woman. Later, while walking through Paris, Andrey sees a woman, Vera, who looks just like the young woman he had seen on the headstone. And so begins the telling of two love stories, separated by three generations and one hundred years.

Lack of good storyline.
Highly Overrated But Still Good
Great movie! If you want to be entertained and have a few good laughs, see this movie. The music is also very good,
From my perspective, the story is not that bat. It's actually refreshing. After many Russian soviet, communist, pro-Red Army films about the 1917 revolution, we finally get to see the other perspective. And Ii believe that "perspective" is a key word here. Even if you don't know so much about Russian history, this will still be entertaining to watch. Is the acting bad? At times, it is very clumsy indeed. But it's definitely not unbearable. After all, we're talking about Dima Bilan, an overly dramatic singer, not about Marlon Brando. However, he did a great job for an amateur. As a whole, the actors seem to have put a lot of passion and dedication on the line. The soundtrack, I believe, is the golden card of this film. Eduard Artem'ev did a great job! It goes really well with the vibe of the film. I still listen to it sometimes. If you get to see the film and listen to it afterwards, you can easily replay the film in your heard again and again. And this is what, I believe, makes for a good soundtrack. The ending is heart-warming. The love story is not something unheard of, but it's depicted in a very good way. It's impossible not to feel empathy for the two main characters, that's all I'm going to say.

The story transcends your anti-Russian dogma and details a story and a setting, not an agenda for today. If you didn't see that you should keep your two cents in your pocket. Presentation of a background in the realm where the characters were was spot on. The opulence was real, the war was real. The revolution was real. It was shown from a particular perspective without the underlying crap mr. Aussie thinks was there and imagined because his mind was already made up. Watch with an open mind and enjoy. Watch the original in Russian. Герой!!! Further, enjoy the performance of the song Romance by Dima Bilan. It is very well done.
This was apparently the highest grossing film at the Russian box office upon release which speaks to the level of media control and indoctrination there at the moment. This melodrama of the highest level plays with all the sophistication of a 1930s B movie. Over the top acting and music cues really ham up the plot, which I might add has holes in it you can drive a bus through. The movie is so pro-imperialist and very anti-Soviet revolution. This is interesting in itself as it must reflect the political climate in Russia at the moment.This is something I would like to look more into.Visually it is bright and lavish and detailed, if not slightly derivative. The acting is poor. Dima Bilan is the lead. He may have won the Eurovision Song Contest but an actor that does not him make.I am very glad I did not pay to see this, but instead won tickets to the Melbourne Russian Film Festival. I probably would have preferred to stay at home, instead of incredulously rolling around in my cinema chair at each new unsubtle and cringe-worthy development.
