The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.

The scariest thing about this film, is that leave it open for a sequel.

Michael Kehoe, the director of this film, has created one of the most lazy and insulting movies I have seen to date. Almost every single aspect of this movie is absolutely atrocious. Horrible directing, a screenplay written by a 12 year old, a script that I can barely even fathom how horrendous it is, bad performances, the list can contain literally every single other aspect of this movie, except one: the camerawork. The only people hired on to the movie who had any actual care put into their craft were those holding on to the camera. And maybe the actors too, I don't put the laughably bad performances on them nearly as much as I do on the director, since literally every single person in the film gives their worst performance. If you're in for a movie with garbage effects, stock music and sound effects (including Wilhelm for some inexplicable reason), and the inclusion of Nazi's like some 80's Canon film, than this is the movie for you. If not, stay as far away from this film as you possibly can. It doesn't deserve a single second of your time being wasted on it.

This movie really had potential in the first few minutes or so. However shortly after the first two deaths occur the rest of the story seems pretty disjointed. I watched til the end in hopes it would get better. Being a history buff i was pulled in by the nazi connection but then it just completely fell flat! The acting was pretty terrible seemed like the college girls and the little girl Irene were new to acting in the worst way . The actors playing the Sears Family were pretty decent. Not very wooden very natural. At first I thought this film was going to be a rip of Stephen Kings "1922" and honestly it probably would have been a better flick if it had been but this movie seems like it was written by two different people. If im being honest i could have done without the second half being set in present day unless the present day story was going to be better developed. One thing i can say as a positive is that when the film picks up it really picks up and several characters die relatively quickly. On the negative side ( as if there weren't enough of those as it was ) we the audience aren't really given enough time or character development to give a damn about the characters or their deaths. This also seems to be the case for the Main character Reagan as she only finds one friends dead and basically says to hell with the other girls. Literally she didn't even call out for them or peek in their rooms or nothing just took off with the kid. SMH, really disappointed, had great potential but couldn't follow through, could have really been so much more.

Out of the gate, The Hatred sets up solid ground work. Part Apt Pupil, part The Conjuring, a decent backstory opens up the first act. As opposed to relying on flashbacks, this film plays out the horrific history of the locale and story. Post-Nazi America in a small town and the secrets that ensue. The second Act only exists to guide us into the present day. Sassy, texting, little to say to each other modern day females visiting the haunted house in question. While trying to create strong, independent women, the script merely calls out the older male sensibility of what we think young adult women talk like. Merely hamstringing our female cast to become stereotypes trying to be more than what was written for them. Which is sad, because the actresses really try to create a sense of friendship, love and trust. However, the groundwork is downtrodden and stale. The last act finally brings the scares and suspense. While unapologetically and rituallistacly off camera, killing off the cast; the final moments with our lead and the child are decently executed. The moment perpetuated in the films trailer is very effective and inventive for an otherwise stale and often imitated genre.Overall, the film had a decent cast and a solid plot. The downside was the lacking second act and lowly accommodating budget. If that third act, trailer based twist on the supernatural played throughout this film, it would've been one for the books.
