Fantastic!
Admirable film.
Tells a fascinating and unsettling true story, and does so well, without pretending to have all the answers.
This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.
You know how you spend half an hour flipping thru netflix trying to find a decent movie to watch that you won't be disappointed in? Well, if you are into crime dramas with some good actors, then this is your pick. It's a good netflix popcorn-night movie. Sure not the greatest, not something I'd be happy with if I spend full price at the theater. But good enough to watch on a saturday night netflix binge watch night.
Ok, my review title may be slightly tongue in cheek but you can see, after watching this movie, it would be a good way of pitching it to potential investors and distributors. In reality, it's nowhere near those classic films in terms of quality but it's a good watch nonetheless and could appeal to devotees of drama, crime or even horror. I wasn't expecting much but watched it purely because Malkovich's name was attached and at an hour and a half it wouldn't take up too much time. Looking at the synopsis: criminals in a warehouse after a failed heist, I thought, Tarantino rip off and indeed continued to think this after I started watching, particularly when they started exchanging conversations about supposed trivialities. But these trivial conversations all added up to a coherent whole and were well executed with flashbacks to the younger selves of the characters observed by their older selves. It has some great moments of suspense and with pretty much one setting and only four major characters, feels like a play, in a good way. I watched this for Malkovich, and he was class, as always but Brody does well as the nominal lead and Banderas adds presence and menace in a supporting but pivotal role. Rory Culkin would appear to be out of place here but also provides good support as a young junkie. If you're not expecting a masterpiece, this is an engaging film with an obviously heartfelt message from it's director.
210. Bullet Head. What a wonderfully odd, kick-ass movie!! A heist movie, that takes place after the heist!! We got three thieves on the run, after stealing some greenbacks from some other bad guy, and they find themselves at the rendezvous point awaiting the getaway car, it turns out to be some run down factory, and while three gents are discussing strategy one goes off, Gage, to shoot up some heroin, and while doing so, he discovers a body, and the thing that killed it, a very big, a very bloody, pit bull... Yea the place where they decided to hole up, also is an underground dog fighting ring... His buddies Stacey and Walker eventually go looking for him and find him staring down the beast, and the run is on... heres the cool part, while hiding from the dog, each of the guys shares a dog tale of their youth... the cooler part... The mean ol dog awaiting to tear them limb from limb... the movie tells his story too... and its sad. But that what makes it so damn good!! Lots of cool actors popped up in this one too... Adrien Brody, Rory Culkin, John Malkovich and Antonio Banderas plays a wicked dick. Told from a different spin, this could easily be a Disney flick... lol.
Rating: 5-/10 "Bullet head" is an incredibly snubbed film of 2017, starring with the great Adrien Brody and the great John Malkovich, and the almost unknown director Paul Solet, who directed, before this, only two films that I have not yet seen, but they were not much appreciated by both critics and the public. Honestly, the only reasons that led me to view this film are Malkovich and Brody who, in fact, together form, despite the poor characterization of the characters, an excellent couple that I would be happy to see maybe in a better quality film. Although I have to admit that it is not entirely to be thrown away, the direction is not bad, apart from the terrible first person sequences from the dog's point of view, Solet has done a great job in the memory scenes, I loved how he represented them . Unfortunately, if he did not stop as a director, he did it in the screenplay that not only offers bad dialogues but also tells a surreal and ridiculous story, the film starts telling something and ends up telling a completely different story. In the film there is also Antonio Banderas who plays the "bad guy" on duty, very shabby and without personality.
