Xander Cage is your standard adrenaline junkie with no fear and a lousy attitude. When the US Government "recruits" him to go on a mission, he's not exactly thrilled. His mission: to gather information on an organization that may just be planning the destruction of the world, led by the nihilistic Yorgi.

it is finally so absorbing because it plays like a lyrical road odyssey that’s also a detective story.
This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.
A movie that not only functions as a solid scarefest but a razor-sharp satire.
The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
Wouldn't be the first XXX movie I've seen, but it is for this series.I may never have seen a single entry in this series if not for the How Did This Get Made? podcast. They recently covered part 3x3, so I figured I'd begin at the intro. Was this a bad movie? By all means, no. Just, it was too DAMN LONG. Yes, it came out in 2002 but it was sooo 1990s. If you like this sort of no- brainer, Bond-rip-off sort of action flick – like I do, then this is the movie for you.Not a cliché passes as our "anti-hero" Xander Cage is recruited to take down the stereotypical end-times terrorists. Along the way, he's tested several times to pad the movie's running time and prove he's got the heart to save the good guys and preserve mankind.Already stated, it's worth seeing if you love the blow'em up 90s action films. I just wish it wasn't so long. I haven't seen the follow-ups yet and will, thanks HDTGM, but hopefully they're merciful with the screen- time.***Final thoughts: Why wasn't this a spin off of the Fast/Furious series? It was practically the same character for Vin Diesel. It's not like he's pitching black for this audience.
Riding off the success of Pitch Black and The Fast and the Furious, Vin Diesel kept up the stealing cars and criminal hero act with xXx. Diesel plays stuntman Xander Cage who is recruited by NSA Agent Augustus Gibbons (Samuel L. Jackson) to help nab Russian criminals in the Czech Republic. The leader of this group of criminal is a stock villain named Yorgi (Marton Csokas). The acting is over the top and the stunts are outrageous making for a mediocre action flick.Xander Cage takes on a role as an anti-James Bond and solves the international crises that men in nice suits can't. The scar-faced Agent Gibbons puts xXx through a series of tests, knocking him out and throwing him into situations a normal person wouldn't survive. Xander uses his extreme sports skills from biking to skating to outrageous driving to get out of trouble. Facing a lifelong prison sentence, Xander agrees to work with the NSA and heads to the Czech republic. He quickly falls in with the group of criminal using his lack of respect for rules as a gateway into gaining the trust of Yorgi. Xander encounters and falls for the mysterious Yelena (Asia Argento) who he discovers is a secret agent herself. When Xander reveals her secret to her, she doesn't believe him until his cover is blown and he is taken off the mission. Check out more of this review and others at swilliky.com
An extreme sports athlete, Xander Cage, is recruited by the government on a special mission. With XXX: Return of Xander Cage coming out in Theaters this Friday i decided to re-watch the first 2 films and review them so let's start with XXX the Original film starring Vin Diesel that came out in 2002 and it's a spy action film with lots of suspense and some pretty cool stunt work and although the movie can get a bit cheesy at times with things that make no sense just remember that this was the case all along. The acting is good for a film of this kind and Marton Csokas makes a really good villain as for Samuel L. Jackson he is great as always, the action sequences were handled very well and they were thrilling from start to finish and the film in the end succeeds on what it tries to do which is to entertain it's viewers with non stop action and one liners plus the soundtrack was pretty cool too (A+)
XXX (2002): Dir: Rob Cohen / Cast: Vin Diesel, Asia Argento, Samuel L. Jackson, Eve, Danny Trejo: Vin Diesel has three X's tattooed on the back of his neck as if he could actually read them back there. He is a daredevil stunt person of impressionable ability who commits illegal acts. Once caught he is visited by Samuel L. Jackson who is scarred on one side of his face. Why this information is needed is beyond me but Diesel is sent on a mission in return for a pardon. Lame plot consists of numerous action scenes to place violence throughout as much of the film as possible. Directed by Rob Cohen who previously directed Diesel in the equally stupid The Fast and the Furious. The production is fine but that is about as far as compliments go with this sh*t. Diesel is typecast as this implausible hero who makes narrow escapes and kicks the crap out of everyone. Asia Argento is lifeless as his potential sidekick and romantic interest who can also kick the crap out of everyone. Jackson is perhaps the most laughable appearing with that stupid scar on his face. Eve also makes an appearance although it can be assured that it will likely do nothing to further her acting career. Action and violence at its most over the top render this one of the stupidest action films of the year. The only purpose this film serves is to reveal that filmmakers have too much money to waste. It should be met with a big black X. Score: 2 / 10
