I don't have all the words right now but this film is a work of art.

The film creates a perfect balance between action and depth of basic needs, in the midst of an infertile atmosphere.

The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one

A young girl, on the threshold of her teen years, finds her life turning upside down, when she is accompanied by an unlikely friend. I finally got to see 'My Girl' the 1991 Howard Zieff Movie starring Anna Chlumsky, Macaulay Culkin, Dan Aykroyd and Jamie Lee Curtis and to be honest i don't understand why the film is so low rated here on IMDb because it was really good it was both funny and very moving with the saddest part being Thoma's Ending also i feel like Vada is the one who steals the show for the most part she is full of questions about her age and she is trying to learn about love or what it means exactly and her relationship with Thomas felt very natural with the 2 kids having a really good chemistry together, her father Harry is a man with a troubled and sad past too and you understand why he is such a lonely person that tries to mind his own business but of course things change once Shelly shows up. Overall i think that this movie was terrific it was funny but at the same time very sad and i know that there's a sequel as well but i don't know if it's as good as the original to be honest.

1972. Vada Sultenfuss (played by Anna Chlumsky) is an intelligent, bubbly, hypochondriacal 11-year old girl. Her father, Harry (Dan Aykroyd), is a mortician and a widower. Her best friend is Thomas J Sennett (Macaulay Culkin). Then her father hires a new receptionist, Shelly (Jamie Lee Curtis) and life will never be the same again.Wonderful movie, and so much better than I expected. From the title and synopsis I thought it was going to be some sort of romantic drama made for teens/pre-teens. However, it is much much more than that. A great examination of love and loss, life, death and renewal and growing up. Very emotional, especially in the final few scenes.Anna Chlumsky is great as Vada. Most child characters end up being irritating, as they tend to be written for children and acted in bratty fashion. Vada's character is wonderful and Anna Chlumsky, in her second movie and first major role, gives a superb performance. Sadly, unlike her co-star Macaulay Culkin, her career never really took off after this and it took until the series Veep in 2012 before she got the sort of role she deserved. On that note, Macaulay Culkin's role is more subdued, has less screen time and less dialogue-intense than Chlumsky's. He does a solid job though.Dan Aykroyd and Jamie Lee Curtis put in good performances too.

I just watched this movie again for the first time in probably twenty years. This movie really had a pretty big impact on my childhood, and it's funny because I can't really remember where I saw it, but I know it probably wasn't more than once, it might have been at the movies...but it might have been once or twice on VHS. A big part of the mystique of this movie is that it was released in the early 90's, but seemingly set in the 70's, and it's done so well you wouldn't even notice. I had the biggest crush on the girl at the time (Chlumsky), and I totally identified with the kid (Culkin), especially because I had a very close brush with death and almost died after having an anaphylactic reaction to a bee sting a year or two before. So this movie really spoke to me as a kid. I really felt like I was the kid in the movie.. which was a weird feeling. Watching it now twenty years later and it's quite a different perspective that you get. I identify much more with Aykroyd and Curtis. I suppose that's only natural. But the issues the movie deals with are timeless, and it does it with a respectability and competence that you don't see very often. The last twenty minutes of this movie will have crying pretty much constantly. It's a beautiful movie, and it's very rare that a movie can elicit such emotions across such a time span.

This probably is one of those movies that everybody talks about for things like the last 20 minutes. I saw a clip of this movie on YouTube and I wanted to see it. I finally found a version that I can watch and to be honest there are a few little problems with it but not many. This is a coming of age film about a girl named Vada, she is surrounded by death because her mother died in childbirth (and she blames herself) and her father is an undertaker who doesn't seem to have time for her nor listens to her (Dan Akroyd). She consistently tries to tell people she's dying, when really all she wants is attention. When a make-up artist (Jamie Lee Curtis) applies for a job soon her father starts dating her. All she does is hang around her best friend, Thomas (MaCauley Culkin) and look after her grandmother with mental health problems. This is the events that happen over a summer break. The acting in this movie... My god, from Anna Chlumsky, it's brilliant. Easily one of the best child performances ever alongside Emily Perkins in Small Sacrifices. I really wonder why out of the kids in this movie the one I've heard of is MaCauley Culkin because Anna is definitely the better actor. The other actors are also pretty good. I mean There was nobody that didn't do a decent job in this movie. One thing I really liked was the drama. Now I think you may have heard people talk about it but my insight is that it went really well and possibly the best drama I've seen in a kids film. It all works really well.If there was anything to raise against this movie it would be when Vada runs to the teacher she has a crush on during one of the more dramatic moments and confesses her love for him only to find out he is getting married because he almost literally announces it a few seconds later... This is at a time when an 11 year old girl is grieving over somebody's death - is that really the best time to tell her that? I think not.So aside from that complaints everything else is a nitpick. This movie really does capture childhood and it really is a timeless movie. This is definitely one of the best coming of age and family films out there, maybe because I haven't seen many. I will most certainly watch My Girl 2 even though I've heard it's not that good. If you can find it, check it out.
