This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.

All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.

The thing I enjoyed most about the film is the fact that it doesn't shy away from being a super-sized-cliche;

KING ARTHUR: EXCALIBUR RISING is a terrible British indie fantasy flick made to cash-in on the new release by Guy Ritchie. It's a lamentable effort from beginning to end and one of the worst I've ever seen. The story takes ideas, themes, and characters from the Arthurian myths and throws them into one lengthy, dragged-out whole. The general look is of a budget GAME OF THRONES, with some bloody kill scenes here and there and lots of wooden acting. The look is mildly convincing but there's virtually no story here and not enough to sustain a half hour short, let alone a full-length feature. Towards the end a guy who is the spitting image of Gandalf the Grey in THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING turns up and of course you know he's meant to be Merlin. Mere words cannot describe the badness of this production.

The idea behind this movie was good: carry the Arthurian legend to the next generation. I'm hoping this was a low-budget movie, maybe a student project (undergraduate). The special effects, other than the now trite slow-/stop-mo scenes and a wolf projected onto the image, were basically non-existent. The actual plot followed every convention; not much originality. The acting was mediocre at best. I wouldn't say it's the worst or even one of the 10 worst movies I've ever seen, but great cinema it isn't. If you go in with low enough expectations, the movie's watchable, especially if it's part of a rent one, get one free deal, like the one I had. (This was the get one free.)

One star for the wolf poking it's head out from behind the tree, that was hilarious, wasn't supposed to be but I have to give a star if I have a big belly laugh. One star for the Welsh actors and naming conventions, which is at least a nod to the origin of the tales.The rest of it, frigging hell. I mean, with bells on. It's an absolute train wreck from start to finish. Dialogue is clunky, sound appalling, special effects aren't special (they're barely effects), storyline is a bit daft. I won't comment about the acting because they had so little to work with!Arthur's son being the protagonist and that son being Owain Ddantgwyn would be enough for anyone with even passing interest in Arthurian legend or Welsh history to kick a puppy.But ... they get a thumbs up for the wolf-tree shot. I was rolling around with laughter.

What a terrible movie. I give it every opportunity, but after 40 min's I had to turn it off. Low budget, poor acting, don't waste you time folks. There are plenty of movies out there, This will waste an hour and 40 Min's of your life, you have been warned. Sorry but its a thumbs down for me guys.
