I love this movie so much
I like movies that are aware of what they are selling... without [any] greater aspirations than to make people laugh and that's it.
When a movie has you begging for it to end not even half way through it's pure crap. We've all seen this movie and this characters millions of times, nothing new in it. Don't waste your time.
I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.
I know it's a bold statement, best movie of all time.. but after watching it 1,000 times, and a lot of soul searching, I stand by it. If you don't understand this masterpiece, you are ignorant of history, the nature of humanity, and the dire message that we really need to grasp. Just look at the history of Paul Verhoven. Look at RoboCop and Total Recall. Same message, same staying power of a masterpiece. So if you don't comprehend this movie, it's above your head. Go back to sleep, sheeple.
Humans in a fascistic, militaristic future do battle with giant alien bugs in a fight for survival. Starship Troopers is no Robocop (1987) or Total Recall (1990) but it certainly packs the same energy and brutality of those 2 R-Rated Flicks plus the cast was terrific i mean Dean Norris, Michael Ironside, Denise Richards and more and more. The special effects also looked pretty believable (not always of course but way better than the later entries for sure). Director Paul Verhoeven's style is also shown in some scenes and it's pretty damn awesome, great 90's flick. (8/10)
Paul Verhoevan's Starship troopers is a fantastic dark comedy masquerading as a cheesy science fiction movie. It is tragic that no one- not the critics or the audience gave this film a chance because the underlying theme is deep and worth debating. Much like all of Verhoevn's films this one contains everything from nudity (both male and female) and extreme gore and violence. Time will probably be more considerate to this movie as it is nowhere as bad as its ratings or box office performance imply. (Rico and space bugs are a treat for those who like layered satire)
I saw this first in a theatre in south Mumbai, cannot remember - Regal or New Empire in 1998. It is a great movie that's highly entertaining. Awesome war action sequences. Top notch impalings man. Not for the squeamish. Impalings of chest, stomach. Bodies being cut in two. Beheadings, dismemberments, amputations, etc. Lots of gun action too. Very bloody, gory n action packed. Paul Verhoeven did a fantastic job of portraying the horrors of war. He is indeed one of the best director of science fiction action films. Good star cast. Casper van dien, Denise Richards, Dina Mayer, Jack busey, Clancy Brown, Michael ironside, Neil Patrick Harris. Not at all boring. The action is non stop. There is a very gruesome scene of the brain. All in all it is an awesome action, sci fiction, creature/horror film.
