Waste of time
Absolutely the worst movie.
To all those who have watched it: I hope you enjoyed it as much as I do.
It's an amazing and heartbreaking story.
Never mind the naysayers, the character dynamics, the pacing and the direction are fantastic, not to mention story, dialogue and a whole bunch more. Ha ha ha! Who wrote this stuff?
Our unlikely duo teams up again. After they make a bust in Atlanta the trail leads them to Miami as they chase A.J. (Ken Jeong) "a low budget Jackie Chan" who can read the thumb drive they captured. This was one of a number of such lines that could be taken out of the context of the script, At one time Hart says to Ice Cube "You want to be responsible for ruining my career?" I could see that. Or When Hart feels he has to tell us, ""I'm acting."Once again Hart saves the film and Ice Cube (In more than one way) and uses skills he learned from video games, perhaps the memorable scene of the feature. Bad guy Benjamin Bratt appears to be impersonating Ricardo Montalban for much of his role. I was waiting to hear something about Corinthian Leather, but it never happened. The film was fun on the formula scale. I had one delayed Laugh Out Loud moment. It is a film you can rent or wait until it flops in price.Guide: 2 words. No sex, or nudity. Bikinis and some sex talk. Toned down from first film.
Off the top of my head as I'm sure there are so many more: Ride Along 2, Transporter 2, Mission: Impossible III, Casino Royale, RENO 911!: Miami, Bad Boys 1-II and, of course, Miami Vice: The Mann Movie. These are action films that took place fully or partially in Miami. When I saw Ride Along 2 went to Miami, I was like: Here we go again and again.BUT I enjoyed this 'Ride.' I laughed a ton, thought the action was adequate and even the most blatant clichés could be overlooked. If you liked the first one, I think you'll definitely dig this follow-up.Basically, the most obvious criminal in movie politics is in Miami and our mismatched soon-to-be "brothers-in-law," head there to take him down. Really, it's 100% what you'd expect from the original. This is definitely one of the rare occasions that a comedy (action- comedy or not) exceeds expectations during the sequel. Rush Hour 2 is another one that comes to mind. They gave you a new background, but retained the magic of the original in both part 2s.Recommended for both Ride Along 1 fans and even newcomers alike. No need to see the original anyways even though that's definitely recommended as well.***Final thoughts: It's always worrisome when they release a movie, especially a sequel to a popular movie, in January. This an exception to that rule.
Review: I wasn't a big fan of this movie, because I didn't find it that funny and the characters hadn't progressed from the first movie. Ice Cube (James) is still trying to prove that Kevin Hart (Ben), isn't a worthy cop and Ben is still getting up to mischief whilst trying to help James crack a case. The first movie was much better, because the concept was fresh and the jokes were funny but this movie wasn't written that well and Ben became annoying after a while. There are a couple of funny moments, like when Ben hit his head on a spinning fan but apart from that, I can count the amount of funny moments on one hand. The soundtrack throughout the movie was decent and you can tell that this movie had a bigger budget than the first one but I still thing that they could have done a better job with this sequel. With All that aside, it's still a watchable film, if you don't take it seriously, and the chemistry between Ben and James is OK. Average!Round-Up: After the success of the first movie, which made over $150million at the box office, this movie was bound to make a hefty profit but it seemed to "come and go" out of people's mind, when it was released. Now that I have watched the film, I can understand why it wasn't as popular as the first one, and I personally think that the director will have to come up with something special, to make the next instalment a hit. Anyway, this movie was directed by Tim Story, 46, who brought you Barbershop, the original Fantastic Four franchise, Taxi, Hurricane Season and the Think Like A Man franchise. He also directed the first Ride Along, so I wasn't surprises that he brought out a sequel so quickly. I did have high hopes for this film, mainly because I enjoyed the first one so much, so I was pretty disappointed with the result. Benjamin Bratt was also a terrible villain and I'm getting a bit fed up of Ken Jeong, because he always plays the same roles in his movies. With all that aside, I still like the banter between Cube & Hart so I will be watching the next one.Budget: $40million Worldwide Gross: $124.2millionI recommend this movie to people who are into their action/comedies starring Ice Cube, Kevin Hart, Tika Sumpter, Benjamin Bratt, Ken Jeong, Bruce McGill, Michael Rose, Tyrese Gibson and Olivia Munn. 4/10
