Very Cool!!!
a film so unique, intoxicating and bizarre that it not only demands another viewing, but is also forgivable as a satirical comedy where the jokes eventually take the back seat.
This film is so real. It treats its characters with so much care and sensitivity.
Story: It's very simple but honestly that is fine.
Two cops, a rookie and a grizzled vet, pursue an accomplished bank robber. Chaos is a pretty well executed and developed heist, action, thriller that benefits from Jason Statham, Wesley Sniples and Ryan Phillippe which by my suprise did a pretty damn good job as a rookie cop. The film isn't without it's flaws tho cause after a very good opening it kinda slows down a bit and it drags in certain places but the acting as i said was pretty damn great and the twist in the end? I gotta admit it i did not see it coming and it was pretty damn clever for sure. (7.5/10)
A twisty-turny bank heist thriller that thinks its better than it is. In this respect, CHAOS is not dissimilar to Spike Lee's INSIDE MAN, although I think this film has the edge: it just gets on with telling the story rather than faffing around with overdone stylisation. Despite the attempts to link the plot and characters to chaos theory, this is very much a routine thriller, and far from the best that the 'heist' genre has to offer (for that, try the Gene Hackman film of the same name). I enjoyed it for the script, which, when it isn't theorising or springing twists on the viewer, is actually fairly entertaining.Jason Statham headlines proceedings as a tough cop. It's not a new role for the actor, but if you can get past his dodgy American accent, he's actually rather good. It makes a nice change from him kicking heads in and I think there's a half-decent actor buried within him somewhere. The real surprise, though, is Ryan Phillippe, who turns out to be very good as Statham's by-the-book partner. I've despised Philippe in everything from WAY OF THE GUN to CRUEL INTENTIONS, but he seems to have matured somewhere along the line and I believed in him here. Wesley Snipes is the third part of the triangle, and plays a stock wisecracking villain straight out of a B-movie.There are a couple of nice turns from supporting players, particularly those making up the cop team: Nicholas Lea (THE X-FILES) is excellent; Justine Waddell is just as good, and Henry Czerny ain't half bad either. This isn't really an action film, despite a couple of pretty decent chases, but the plot kept me watching. Not great maybe, but solid entertainment all the same.
The story opens up strongly with the background incident that explains the situation of one of the main characters. It gets better as the movie builds up its story right after the opening in a fast paced fashion. Being more of a detective crime movie than an action, this movie sure was able to bend the viewers expectation from wanting a heavy set action packed flick, to one of intricate story of well-spun web of lies. The twists are build decently with all the neatly placed small details. Despite they are so very much predictable, the twists are appreciable enough when they arrive considering that many of the twists are being build just as the movie comes to a half time duration or so. Jason Statham acted out his character nice enough although it's with less appearance of his great martial arts skills. Wesley Snipes portrayed the antagonist also very well, engaging the viewers focus on the character as the blame point, until the very last twist. Ryan Phillippe fills the shoes of the rookie character stupefied by his new partner quite adequately also.
Truth be told I watched this movie for one reason only. Jason Statham. That said I did find other things to like about this movie and a few I could have done without. Now I will grant anyone who reads this that I've not watched many Ryan Philippe movies. If I did I don't remember he was in them. His performance was rather blah. Even Wesley Snipes with as little screen time as he had made his character interesting. Now back to the things I liked. This movie starts out with a bang. I really loved how they told the back story through the audio clips and newspapers. That stood out. It made Connors bad attitude when his boss shows up at his door a little more understandable. One thing they could have elaborated more one was why Snipes' character quit, retired or whatever it was he did. I didn't pick up on that. The twist at the end is what really throws you. When I saw it and it is a doozy (trust me) I was blown away. I had to rewind and watch it one more time before it clicked. You just aren't expecting it.The end was worth the blah from Philippe who seems to be trying too hard or not hard enough to balance out his costars. Chaos was a good thriller.
