Pretty good movie overall. First half was nothing special but it got better as it went along.

In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.

Ok... Let's be honest. It cannot be the best movie but is quite enjoyable. The movie has the potential to develop a great plot for future movies

By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.

Perhaps I'd react differently if I saw this movie in the 90s, but I doubt it. Like me now, even back then this was late to the party, so to speak. Sort of from the times before movies reached a certain quality - as if it's attraction enough that it IS a movie.I like quirky movies, I like dark movies, I like layered movies, even the odd "artsy" movie. This was none of that, in spite of being touted by many to be so. I found it tedious, unfunny and shallow. It could've had some B-movie'ish charm if just about everything in it was of a less pretentious "let's be quirky cool" - but, alas it wasn't.I'm trying to think of some positives, but I'm coming up empty. It's not even a "style over substance" candidate, as both aspects are equally dreary. Unless you're a Lynch-fan-for-the-sake-of it, you might as well skip it.I'll give it two stars since it was shot in colours and has sound.

David Lynch, that master of the bizarre, strikes again with "Wild at Heart". What I interpreted from it is that, no matter how weird a person is, s/he isn't as weird as the society that we inhabit. After all, Sailor is seen as the "wrong" kind of person for Lula, but the people hired by Marietta are also some real oddballs. Indeed, Sailor may have killed someone, but Marietta turns out to be the only truly creepy character: not only does she want to control Lula's life, but the way that she covers her entire face in lipstick is outright scary. And Bobby? Now that man's enough to make your skin crawl! If you want to take a more cynical approach to this, you could say that Lynch gave it the ending that audiences want as opposed to a more shocking one. But in reality, after what the movie says about our society, don't the protagonists deserve each other's love? Whether challenging the notion of an idealistic small town, or focusing on some sick people in the generally unseen parts of the US, this is not a movie that you're likely to forget soon. Nicolas Cage and Laura Dern put on what were probably the best performances of their careers, with fine support from Diane Ladd, Harry Dean Stanton (RIP), Willem Dafoe, Crispin Glover, Isabella Rossellini and Sherilyn Fenn. Not the best movie ever made, but one that all cinephiles should watch at least once.

In 1990 David Lynch was an all time career peak. His television show "Twin Peaks" had the greatest reviews of all time for a television show. The show debut in April. One month later "Wild at Heart" would win the Canne Film Festival however not everyone loved this film and there seem to be many boo's when it was announced that it did win. It easy to see why this film had such a polarizing effect. It is a very violent and very sexual. It pushes the limits on what content should be allowed in a "R RATED FILM" before it is given a more restricted NC- 17 rating. "Wild at Heart" is a film that you won't forget once you see it. It is one of those where most people will "Love" or "Hate". Now I was and still am a "Twin Peaks" fan. I was looking forward to seeing this film. However this film I do not love. To me it pushed the envelope way too far. If a scene was violent it was graphic in sexual content. Here is the story:In this film After serving prison time for a self-defense killing, Sailor Ripley (Nicolas Cage) reunites with girlfriend Lula Fortune (Laura Dern). Lula's mother, Marietta (Diane Ladd), desperate to keep them apart, hires a hit man to kill Sailor. If this film was shorter or "Toned down" I might have enjoyed it more. However even now I am very hesitant to watch it. If you can get through the first 15 minutes and then you will be okay. If you find it too much then you might want to know it only gets more graphic. Not the the Best David Lynch Film. However if you have a great sound system then put this on and pump up the volume!

Its not perfect and its barely one of Lynch's best but it is still a very good movie and a joy, if a rather scary one, to watch. Laura Dern, apparently foregoing her non nudity clause, puts in a very brave performance, possibly her best. Nicolas Cage, famously variable is spot on in this all the way through. There may be doubts during the narrative as to whether this is intended to be a love story or a hate story but Cage persuades from start to finish with an massive performance. Convincing as the tough, ruthless, almost psychotic, gentle romantic guy. Probably the second most scary person in this is Laura Derry's mother Diane Ladd playing her mother, which is pretty scary in itself but this gets worse and worse. And the award for the most scary person of all goes to - Willem Defoe, but then isn't he always and he finds new ways to be so. Some great scenes, maybe a little overlong, but then Lynch does so love those endless highways.
