Going through a phase right now of watching all these 80s cult films that i remember as a child. "1990: The Bronx Warriors" would have to be my favourite. The costumes, the overacting, the slow fight scenes, the soundtrack of an overly distorted guitar blaring over a 1980s drum machine, the too easy to follow story lines and predictable endings, the cheap faded face paint, the heavy metal haircuts and the main characters name being "Trash"... With that all said i wouldn't want it any other way, its downfalls keep me glued to the screen. There's crap movies that i don't bother with that make me fall sleep, then there's movies that are so bad they're great.Labelled as a B grade movie it is definitely one of those films that u would've watched as a kid then many years later as an adult you'd be asking yourself and others "what was the name of that movie where the guy has a knife come out of the front of his cowboy boot? No not Roadhouse, it was way before that film".Directed by the Italian director that Tarrantino idolised: Enzo G. Castellari. This film is the daytime version of "The Warriors".If u haven't seen it get a hold of this badass film and thank me later, believe me it will change your life.

From the start of this movie, it had me kinda interested. The funky bassline with the typical '80s soloing, it was just so cheesy and awesome, it made me feel like I was in for a good time. We get told that in 1990 the Bronx has become "no man's land" and that The Riders control it. A blonde woman is being attacked by a gang when the Riders roll in, beating away the gang. The Riders stop near a place underneath a bridge, and another gang in old, flame covered muscle cars pull up. The leader of this gang killed one of their members for entering their turf. This member was one an undercover. The Manhattan Corporation are watching over them, on a "secret operation". They are trying to track down the blonde girl, who's apparently the richest girl in the world. A man infiltrates where they are hanging at and shoots two members with a shotgun, causing a fire fight. He takes off in a semi, and the Riders chase after him on their bikes. They flag the truck down but don't find him. They find a ring belonging to a rival gang called The Tigers, and the Riders cry out for war. This is a trap set up by the Manhattan Corporation to lead them in the wrong direction. Trash and Ann, the rich girl, get trapped by the gang from the beginning, The Zombies, and get attacked and beaten. Trash drives back to the gang to tells them he plans on going to somebody called the Ogre or something like that, but that would require them to go through all the rival gang's turfs. They come across the first gang, a gang that tap dances while they fight and move. Trash manages to talk to the leader to let them pass. Meanwhile, the left over members decide to get revenge on the truck driver, but get caught by the man with the shotgun, who calls himself Hammer. The Riders move through this tomb/tunnel thing where the get ambushed by these dusty ninja things. One is killed, but Trash and the rest manage to fight them off. The member that got captured turns traitor and goes and steals Trash's main weapon. One member tries to alert Trash but is killed by those dusty zombie ninja things. Hammer inexplicably catches up with them and reports their whereabouts. They end up in The Tiger's territory and sneak about trying not to be caught. Hammer stops Trash, and the two confront each other. He tells Trash that he will be the one blamed for one of The Tiger's deaths. Hammer gets away and Trash is caught by the gang. Trash ends up talking the leader of The Tigers into working together, telling him that Hammer had set them up against each other. The member that tried to warn Trash is found hanging almost dead. He tells Trash the other member has turned traitor, and then Trash mercy kills him. Hammer is told that he needs to get the girl within the next day by 11 or he dies. Hotdog tells him that Ice, the traitor, made a deal to get her back and they plan on flying her back to the Manhattan Corp. Trash and the leader of the Tigers make their way into The Zombies headquarters. Ogre and the Zombies' leader duke it out, and Ogre ends up killing him. Trash joins in to back him up, and the fight off the Zombies. Ice stabs Hotdog with a boot knife, killing him. Trash goes to confront him, Ice tries to get him to turn on the girl and the two start fighting. Trash pushes him down a hole and he is impaled. The Manhattan Corporation storm around The Tiger's hideout, big trucks filled with their troopers surrounding them. More troopers continue to approach and enter the building, firing off flamethrowers. The Tigers run and flee, as they are attacked and killed. After a long battle, the Ogre is shot multiple times and dies, soon after Ann get shot and slowly dies in Trash's arms. An Angered Trash gets revenge, shooting a harpoon into Hammer, killing him. He manages to escape and rides off. This is an enjoyable action movie that does not try to hide what movies it is ripping off of (although a lot of Italian rip offs did this). It's just good fun, with lots of action and some blood and gore. There's lot of cool sets and scenery, especially in those tomb/catacomb area. The gangs are all memorable and different, and pretty goofy at that. Trash is a likable hero, and we do feel for him at the end. I would recommend this to anyone who is a fan of old '80s action movies, and the movies this movie rips off of. It's just classic '80s fun, camp and cheese included.

In 1990, the future, street gangs have taken over the Bronx, and it is officially designated "No Man's Land". A lone hero, Trash (Gregory) is a member of the Riders gang . He wants to protect his girlfriend Ann (Goodwin) from the onslaught of violence and lawlessness, but she's the daughter of the President of The Manhattan Corporation, the suits who are really running things from behind the scenes. Part of Trash's quest is to get to Ogre (Williamson), a powerful man in the underground community. In order to do this, Trash and his compatriots must fight through a dizzying array of enemies. Meanwhile, Hammer (Morrow) and Hot Dog (Connelly) are monitoring the situation. If that all sounds confusing, don't worry, as 1990 is a year that can't come too soon! Ah, 1990: The Bronx Warriors. A video store classic if there ever was one! Just starting from the opening credits, you know what you're about to see is going to be an absolute treat. The Walter Rizzati music is pitch-perfect, the outfits are amazing, the vehicles are a joy to watch , and the weaponry is filled with eye-catching innovation. It's yet more proof, as if any was needed, that the 80's rule! We've always been fans of Enzo G. Castellari, and here he puts his stylish directorial touches (as well as a role in the movie) towards the time-honored post-apocalyptic movie. In more recent years, this has come to be synonymous with "slog", but here, that couldn't be further from the truth. Pretty much using The Warriors (1979) and Escape From New York (1981) as its template, the filmmakers behind 1990 somehow managed to come up with their own unique beast. The Italians really have their own style, and here they put their energies to an extremely entertaining use.Trash is truly a hero for the 80's. First off, his name is Trash. Are you really going to argue with him? Well, there's really no second part to that. Adding to the nostalgia factor, there are plenty of scenes that feature the World Trade Center towers. But 1990 offers something new even there: how often do you see a dude playing the drums right out in the open in front of the towers? And later on, there's even a New York cake with the towers on it! The "icing on the cake" (sorry) is that this falls into another category we love: movies that take place in the future but are now the past.We really enjoyed 1990 and we're pretty confident you will too. The Media Blasters DVD looks great, and needless to say, blows away the old Media tape, quality wise. It's hard not to love 1990.For more action insanity, drop by: www.comeuppancereviews.com

***SPOILERS*** Futuristic film, released in 1982, about the Boro of the Bronx circa 1990 where crime has gotten so out of hand that the NY City Government abandoned it to its fate. In letting the Bronx get overrun by criminal outlaw biker gangs who made the Bronx into a living hell. It's in that hellhole that a young 17 year old who's to inherit the Manhattan Arms making Corperation Anne Fisher, Stef Girolami, decide to escape to in order not be be made CEO by her pop the cooperation's president Ted Fisher, Enio Girolami. Mr. Fisher who doesn't have long to live plans to make his daughter Anne president before he leaves, by dropping dead, the scene.Anne gets hooked up with biker gang leader Trash, Marco Di Gregorio, who ends up uniting all the Bronx bikers gangs who are targeted for extermination by psycho cop Hammer "the Exterminator", played by real life Bronx boy Vic Morrow, hired by the Manhattan Corp.to get Anne back home even if she doesn't wan't to go! Trash for his part doesn't come across as a hard as nails outlaw biker but more like a wimpy ballet dancer which in fact the person who played him, Di Gregorio, actually was. Stiff as a board and walking around as if he's wearing a tight brassiere Gergorio, who was 16 when the movie was made, reads his lines as if he were reading cue cards and has a mop of unkempt hair that any member of Hair Club of America would be green with envy of.There's also Trash's comrade in arms Orge, Fred "The Hammer" Williamson, the self proclaimed "King of the Bronx" who's, together with Trash, to take on Hammer and his gestapo-like cops with his main squeeze Witch, Betty Dessy, in the films flaming and final sequence. As for nut-job Hammer he gets more and more crazier as he succeeds in his mission in wiping out all the Bronx biker gangs and getting Anne back home to her luxury townhouse, that she discarded for a burnt out Bronx tenement, in Manhattan.**SPOILERS*** In the end it's the brutal and brainless Hammer who screws up the whole operation in rescuing Anne from her biker friends. Flushed with victory by having slaughtered almost all the outlaw bikers, including Orge, with his flame-throwing stormtroopers Hammer stupidly exposes himself to enemy fire and ends up getting whacked in the process! What was even far more ridicules on Hammer's part is that the very reason he and his gang of psycho cops were sent in into the burnt out Bronx in order to rescue Anne turned into a total disaster! In Hammer and his men ending up killing Anne together with almost the entire, of what was still left, of the Bronx's population!
