The movie turns out to be a little better than the average. Starting from a romantic formula often seen in the cinema, it ends in the most predictable (and somewhat bland) way.

'Evidence' is a very clever movie. Generally we have come to associate the 'found-footage' genre with horror movies, and one could possibly argue that 'Evidence' is in a way a horror movie. But to me it is far more of a mystery/thriller and the 'found-footage' concept works exquisitely in terms of the story. To have multiple cameras all being introduced one after another and adding a different perspective to the mystery added a great deal of depth to the film. The end result is a fantastically crafted thrill ride full of mystery and twists. The only negative I could find about this movie is that it does get a little convoluted and confusing through the middle. There is so much going on and with the camera angles obviously not being ideal (simply due to them keeping the 'found-footage' concept realistic) that it is a little hard to follow. I didn't find this to detract much from my overall enjoyment of the film however. Other than that I can't really fault the film. The structure, pacing and acting were all of a very high standard and I would thoroughly recommend this film to as many people as I can.

EVIDENCE is a found footage slasher film with a few twists that make it look nothing like its genre. It starts off with an elaborate post-disaster set-piece in which it appears a bomb has gone off or some such; the camera circles in a giant freeze frame of the aftermath in shots that reminded me of SWORDFISH and THE KINGDOM. Before long, a couple of investigators (a tough Radha Mitchell and a dishevelled Stephen Moyer) show up and discover that events leading up to the incident were recorded so they sit back and watch them play out. When it comes down to it, EVIDENCE is fairly straightforward slasher movie. I've always enjoyed found footage films but the actual presentation of the footage is quite poor here, with an overwhelming reliance on 'damaged' footage effects leading to lots of loud crackling, some of which is presented as jump-in-your-seat scares. However, the death sequences are extremely horrifying without ever being 100% graphic, a good example of how horror isn't just about gore. The material with Mitchell and Moyer feels somewhat extraneous, like it's just been included to pad out the plot, but I did like the resolution of the story and the hunt for the killer angle is quite interesting. There's a twist ending which feels pretty silly rather than believable, although former NEIGHBOURS actress Caitlin Stasey and Torrey DeVitto are both pretty good in their parts.

I'm running low on my watch list. It seems everything I want to see now is not available for streaming on Amazon or Netflix, and thus, I have started settling for movies that to be quite frank, I would never watch, had I something better to do, or a general purpose in life. Similarly my quest for frightening movies has ended, as it seems that I've seen them all. After watching Grave Encounters last night and suffering not even a flinch, I have replaced the idea of 'scary' with 'entertaining'. If I can watch a movie the whole way through these days, it's an aberration from the norm. To the movie 'Evidence's' credit, it was entertaining, and I'm glad I stuck through till the ending. The plot circles around a horrific crime scene in which multiple people are murdered and mutilated beyond recognition. We learn from the beginning that there are some survivors, though we are not informed of their identities. Luckily for the police, a tape that documents that groups nightmare is recovered, which (of course) the police must review in order to try and solve the crime. For fear of spoiling the movie, I'm not going to go more in-depth in regards to it's plot. This is the kind of movie where the less you know, the better. It's a typical 'who dun nit?', and it truly does keep you guessing until the end. I have to admit that about 3/4 into the film, I was starting to get bored. "Here we go again, another ridiculous serial killer movie", I thought to myself. I'm glad I followed through with it though because the plot twist and ending is so outrageous that it actually redeems the rest of the film which was mediocre at best.Evidence is kind of a hybrid of 'Found-Footage' and conventional cinematography, which I liked. It's definitely one of the best looking in the sub-genre, comparable to 'As Above/So Below' in terms of cinematography. Sure there is some shaky camera moments, but overall the film is shot rather beautifully, which we attribute to the fact that one of the lead characters had conveniently been shooting a documentary before the havoc ensued.Overall, this is not a great movie, and like I said earlier, if I had something better to do, I probably wouldn't have wasted my time with it. That aside, if you're running low on entertainment, and find yourself sitting around on a rainy day wanting to watch a movie, 'Evidence' does the trick. It's a mystery that for once keeps the viewer guessing until the climactic finale, and it's definitely a fun watch. I'll give it five stars because it exceeded my expectations by a long shot, but at the same time was nothing new or ground breaking.

*Review Contains Slight Spoiler But Does Not Ruin The Movie*I constantly say im done with found footage films yet I always end up watching more, I dislike them about 80% of the time but for some reason I keep punishing myself. "Evidence" seemed promising when I started it. Solid start, decent acting for this type of film, and a some what interesting plot. But then we dive into the "found footage" portion of the film which is a complete mess. Its basically just a jumble of scenes focused around people trapped at a old gas station getting murdered. This wouldn't be so bad if the camera didn't shake so much during all the good parts, preventing us from even really knowing whats going on.The last 15 minutes is definitely the movies strong point, if the rest of the film would have been more like this I could have gotten on board a bit more. "Evidence" manages to pull off a 4/10 simply because of the finale.
