To me, this movie is perfection.

Fun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.

This film is so real. It treats its characters with so much care and sensitivity.

All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.

I am kind of a person that supports a remake when there is room for improvement in the original picture. And Romero's The Crazies is just the right film to get remade. I've seen a few horror remakes that are exceptionally brilliant such as Alexandre Aja's remake of Wes Craven classic "The Hills Have Eyes" and Zack Snyder's remake of Romero's "Dawn of the Dead", although The Crazies is not as brilliant, it still has a fresh breath of air compared to the original. The acting is quite good, although i have a problem with Timothy Olyphant being a sheriff- again! The dude is still Sheriff Seth Bullock from HBO's amazing western drama "Deadwood; he walks the same, he talks the same and he has the exact same quick temperement that Seth Bullock has. Joe Anderson - who i first got to know in ABC's short lived but quite entertaining horror series "The River" and quickly remarked "Damn! he would make a good Kurt Cobain in a biopic!" - is a pretty original supporting character and is the only unique character to watch in the film in my opinion. The visuals are the best thing about the movie, the DOP saves the film from being a typical outbreak horror film with just the same old storyline and same old jumpscares.. The Crazies is definitely a feast for the eye.

Well acted, no stupid characters, decent dialogue, and very few plot holes. Why didn't this movie get more recognition? I remember being super excited for it to come out and it meeting all of my expectations.I would really recommend seeing this and adding it to your list of great horror movies produced in the 21st century. There are so few.

I always do my best to go into a film with an open mind and leave most preconceived baggage out of the experience, but The Crazies had so much that had me sharpening my knives to eviscerate it. Directed by a nepotism flyweight, who's daddy used to run Disney and directed one of the biggest flops of the decade - a remake of a less than stellar George Romero film - a title that just sounds silly on a slick studio production and sounds designed for cheap exploitation - a cast capable of good work, but with careers of varying quality control. So it was a complete surprise that The Crazies is a damn fine horror film. It's well directed, acted and has a mounting sense of dread, as well as some humor. There's no fat on this film and the mayhem begins from the first scene. The surveillance effects during the first 15 minutes or so are unnecessary and a crazed man terrorizing his family before setting the house on fire, has plenty of familiar horror tropes that you've seen a thousand times - but those are minor complaints. Most of what unfolds plays out well, even with a few bumps along the way - a visit back to our two leads home where a hostage situation takes place should have been cut. There are some great set pieces, especially one involving some serious misuse of a pitchfork. The Crazies delivers the goods.

When a remake is done right, you can feel it from the get go. This is truly one of those movies. I'm not really going to write any spoilers here, I always tick that box in case I let something slip. Writing spoilers for this movie wouldn't be right, you really just need to sit down switch off the lights and watch the film for yourself. Once you do, it's going to wind up being a movie you'll watch again and again. Personally I've already watched it fourteen times. Almost as much as I've watched the original version from 1973. Those earlier Romero movies like Dawn of the Dead (1978) are a bit of an acquired taste because their so dated now, but with this remake of the Crazies there's no need to be a Romero fan and no need to watch the original first. It stands entirely on it's own and I love it for that. The film is loaded with suspense and gripping moments, yet everything in it is entirely plausible. You won't find any of those "as if" moments that are so common in horror today. The acting is solid. The direction, editing and script are fantastic as is the casting and the story. Timothy Olyphant (of FX's Justified) excels in the lead role and the entire supporting cast backs him exceptionally well. From beginning to end the movie just keeps coming at you leaving you wondering whose infected and whose going to survive. If you have seen the original version, the ending of this remake really fleshes it out and slaps you right in the face...In a good way of course.I highly recommend this movie to horror fans, fans of the disaster and virus sub genres, Romero fans and even those who have no idea who George Romero is. I would also recommend this to any fan of Timothy Olyphant, even if your not into horror at all. I promise you, you will enjoy this movie.
