As somebody who had not heard any of this before, it became a curious phenomenon to sit and watch a film and slowly have the realities begin to click into place.
The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful
The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one

This was a great movie if your not a couch person.
A group of attractive young travellers experience trouble on the road in Brazil due to the recklessness of their bus driver. However, they behave just as senselessly when they wander away. They find a tropical paradise where they party hearty, only to find that they've been set up (naturally) by cunning locals. Their possessions are stolen, and they're forced to take it on the lam, plunging deep into the jungle where ultimately they will be victimized by self righteous sadists. The familiarity of the scenario, the annoyance factor of the characters (especially Finn, as played by Desmond Askew), the fact that one might not care what happens to them, and a story that takes a while to grab hold work against the movie. Of course, there's always the appeal of a movie filmed in very exotic (at least to a North American) locations, and the resulting gorgeous scenery / photography. The movie gets somewhat better as it goes along, with more suspense (and more gore, for those who really want it), with some strikingly done underwater sequences. We also have an antagonist whom we do understand, even if we don't condone what they do. They, in fact, see themselves as the good guy, not the villain. The gore effects (by Todd Masters) are good, but director John Stockwell never lingers too long on them until late into the movie. Atmosphere is fairly strong, although after a while the look of "Turistas" does get awfully murky. The performances are so-so: hunky Josh Duhamel, as Alex, the character who comes closest to having a brain, and lovely Melissa George, as Pru, come off better than the others, although Agles Steib has some likability as the helpful Kiko."Turistas" is about on par with a "Hostel" movie: ultimately pretty oppressive, albeit not as extravagantly operatic in its sadism.Six out of 10.
I thought it was pretty good actually, despite the low rating. From the start it had me on the edge of my seat. About something that could actually happen. I believe that this could be very possible given the circumstances in different countries. It starts out with a group of friends from the United States, traveling to a different country. that country happens to be Brazil. They are traveling by bus but their bus has a mishap. Everyone on the bus almost dies because the bus almost goes over a cliff. Everyone on the bus survives, in- clouding the main characters, but the bus is not okay. The travelers visit the nearest beach and find shelter there. The guys want to stay but the girls don't. It gets intense as the story goes on. I recommend it.
I thought this was a very interesting movie.I loved the way the movie was set out and how Kiko was luring the tourists into his uncles death trap but then decides they are good people and tries to get them to leave before his uncle arrives. There wasn't too much gore but just enough for a movie like this. I also liked the ending as it was a happy one for those who survived the ordeal as they were on their way back home - it's good to know that they all didn't die and some came back alive. It reminded me of 'Human Centipede' as the tourists were trying to get away from a mad surgeon just like the 2 girls in the Human Centipede. After reading the reviews on IMDb I thought it would be a really bad movie but it wasn't and I enjoyed it and would recommend it.
