Great movie. Not sure what people expected but I found it highly entertaining.

It's funny, it's tense, it features two great performances from two actors and the director expertly creates a web of odd tension where you actually don't know what is happening for the majority of the run time.

This movie has no reason to exist. It's one of the worst things I've ever seen and only partly due to the casting of Logan Paul as the protagonist. I'm no fan of Mr. Paul and his Youtube shenanigans but I know he's popular with the young crowd. Problem is, he's not a good actor. In fact everybody seems to be sleepwalking through their roles in this but that's only part of the problem. The rest of it is they took an interesting concept for a dystopian future and turned it into an unbelievable and frankly boring piece of crap.Nothing makes sense in this movie. Absolutely nothing. Things happen because they're supposed to happen in the script but there's no lead up or reason for them. The story itself contradicts it's own narrative. This seems to have been directed and edited by somebody with ADHD because honestly it was cut so badly I didn't know what I was looking at half the time. Of course it's a "Youtube Red original movie" that might explain it. Hey, it works on Youtube in a two minute video, it's going to work for a full length one right? Wrong. Some real actors in the lead and a better script and director and maybe they could have made something that people would want to watch instead of just a product to be consumed.

For the premise of what it was and the fact that this was a youtube produced movie I was actually blow away by how good this movie actually was. The script was very well done, the acting was fairly decent, and the plot held together when you took it as a basis of a sci-fi apocalyptic world the likes of the Purge, Hunger Games, Divergent, etc. While some reviewers seem to think the premise is moronic, I argue that it's no more moronic than the other stories that have the same concept that eliminate youths for one reason or another. In the end this was an enjoyable watch and I say well worth it.

I just want to say one thing about this movie. It was an alright movie but it was hyped up too much. This movie is set in the future where the Earth is lacking natural resources to keep the existing population so in the United States or maybe just Texas (I still don't know) students take a test. If they pass they live and if they fail they are "killed". At the end of the movie they show Logan Paul wake up on an elevator where he sees Lia Johnson alive and working on some sort of assembly line. This is the part I don't understand. If the Earth were lacking natural resources and we wanted to use less resources then why would you keep the failed students alive? They would be using the same resources as if they were "alive". After seeing this at the end are realizing that they aren't actually being killed I was really confused because then the system is pointless.

I'll make this short and sweet. This movie is a rip-off of the Hunger Games. Not worth your time or money unless you want to see how not to make a movie. This movie was just, so... boring. I stopped paying attention after a while. I'll admit it's not the worst I've ever seen, but nothing about it is particularly good. It's generic, full of clichés, and it wastes an opportunity to make a good movie based on the promising concept. The solution to overpopulation in the future is what this movie is based around, and because that will soon become a really pressing issue all across the world, this movie had the chance to do something special. However, it didn't. I'm quite disappointed, honestly. Every other scene was a drag because I was rolling my eyes so much. I didn't come to watch cheap teen "romance", or a pure evil villain with no real motive, or even the twist ending. This movie is full of illogical events, people, and actions. One of the most infuriating things was the way this society went about population control. I'm sure the creators were trying to be unique, but this method doesn't make as much sense as others. In this future, families aren't limited to just one child, fatally sick people still get health care, but school kids have to take a test that the punishment for failing is dying? What? Weeding out the weak and stupid I get, but the fact that this was the only procedure didn't make sense. The system itself also seems to be pretty badly executed, at least in Austin, Texas.I wanted to see the protags come up with a way to fix the broken system, but by the end nothing actually changed. Maybe they were banking on a sequel, but I hope that I don't see one coming out in the next few years. This movie had it's chance, and it failed to impress a majority of people because it's just not that good. It's just okay.
