Best movie of this year hands down!
It's no definitive masterpiece but it's damn close.
Don't listen to the negative reviews
This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.
Of the first 5 Scary Movies this one oddly eluded me, having previously seen the other 4. Saw the original movie at the cinema and hated it so didn't exactly get off to a good start, and I'm certainly not a fan of the series. Anyway this one provides plenty of funny gags, has a cast of many familiar faces (especially being a Hip-Hop fan) & is short enough not to out stay it's welcome. A bit like my review!
Scary Movie 3 (2003) * 1/2 (out of 4) The third film in the popular series finds Cindy (Anna Faris) working as a newswoman and discovering a mysterious video tape where if you watch it you get a phone call that you'll be dead in a week. Could this tape be connected to the farmer (Charlie Sheen) who has crop circles in his fields? SCARY MOVIE 3 will probably be enjoyed by those who enjoyed the first two but I must say that this here is another disappointing entry. I'm sure there are people out there who really love this type of film but I must admit that it's pretty much lost on me. For the most part this entire film just spoofs THE RING and SIGNS but it doesn't do either of them much justice. The stuff dealing with THE RING is never funny no matter what kind of joke they're going after. It could be the water coming out of the television, the psychic getting into a fight with the girl or anything else. Everything dealing with the spoof is rather unfunny and that's not a good thing when you consider that 60% of the running time is devoted to THE RING. The stuff with SIGNS really isn't any better but there are a few funny moments at the end once the aliens do arrive. Don't even get me started on the opening sequence with Pamela Anderson and Jenny McCarthy as it's just downright bad. The one big difference in this film is that we're given some pretty well-known people including Sheen. It's funny to see him in something like this but sadly he isn't given too much to work with. The same is true for Leslie Nielsen and the various cameos including George Carlin, Denise Richards, Queen Latifah and Eddie Griffin. The movie has a few funny moments scattered throughout but sadly the majority of the jokes just miss their mark.
I rather enjoyed this low-brow comedy, and its mishmash parody of various horror movies (including "The Ring", "Signs" and "8 Mile") and other aspects of Hollywood culture. It was all rather cliché and slapstick, but at the same time it was well done, fast paced, irreverent, sort of fun, and quite unpredictable. Appearing in the film are a number of good comedians and off-the-wall personalities. I enjoyed Scary Movie 1, way back when, and it was interesting to catch up with the series. This movie didn't blow me away, but it was entertaining enough. I'm tempted to give it about a 7, but I think it merits a 6 because of its general crudity and overt stupidity.
I liked the original. Although, not a masterpiece, it was at least funny and entertaining and the second, while lacking the same depth as the first, was also funny in it's own reputation. This one isn't in the same depth made in the first, but it's not as bad as some say it is, in my opinion. The script had some funny moments, but lacks the wit and charm of the first two films. The story is largely thin and predictable for it's own good and the pacing is uneven with the beginning rushed and gets a little too slow. The cast is the one of the few redeeming qualities. Anna Faris gives out her best performance and is done vastly better than the previous two. The rest of the actors, including Charlie Sheen, Anthony Anderson, and Queen Latifah gave some great performances so far. The production values is well-done and looks realistic. The spoofs are so funny with the 8 Miles, Signs, and The Ring being my favorites and the soundtrack in the movie is also pretty darn good.Overall, not as great as the first two, but I really liked it.
