Redundant and unnecessary.
It's easily one of the freshest, sharpest and most enjoyable films of this year.
This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.
The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
With a good soundtrack and 90's west coast atmosphere, it's one of the referenced examples of "hood film", together with "do the right thing". i think "furious" reflects the main idea of the film. the government tries to destroy unwanted people by forcing them to being uneducated and unemployed. this method will cause to increase violence and terror among these groups. eventually the power will confirm itself and will demand right to intervene.
Boyz N the Hood to me speak from a place that breaths life to the darkness, the soot and grime we want to keep in that very darkness. There is nothing I don't absolutely love about Boyz, and although I happen to be a super fan of Menace II, being that I have never seen anybody do what the Hughes Brothers do with a camera , I mean they do not need a budget, their imagination has imagination, they can get it done. Boyz to me, is the sort of pedagogue from which to learn, it assumes the meritorious titular teacher of the thematic film-making for more than just "lets roll and have some fun". But I came here because , time after time I experience Boyz, I just have to say one thing, Film cannot encapsulate everything that Mr. Singleton is, he is beyond words bearing the ineffable, not only in universal wisdom but in the arts of aesthetics. I would love to read something by Mr. Singleton in a sort of non-linear formless stream of consciousness about everything that is the great John Singleton....
Good movie, good casting. The first movie in which we see actors like Laurence Fishburne, Cuba Gooding Jr, Ice Cube, Angela Bassett and others in prominent roles. It's a film with some resemblance to Spike Lee's "do the right thing," made just 2 years earlier. This "boyz n the hood" does not reach the same level as Spike Lee's film, but it has many merits. Perhaps it could have been more "bold" on this issue of the problem of black neighborhoods in the United States.
But not "dumb" in a purposefully insulting way. "Dumb" as in it feels like it was made by a child. Everything is incredibly obvious, on the nose, cheesy and you can see it coming from a mile away. This movie doesn't do subtle, or thoughtful, or anything really. It honestly feels like something a 6th grader would make. At first I was bored, then I was angry and by the time the end credits rolled I was laughing out loud at how silly it is. Halfway through I gave up on the promise of any story and just sort of stick out to see who gets the bullet as it really seemed that's the only way this movie could've ended. You want to add 7 points to that because of the real issues and human tragedies it deals with? Feel free to do so. But theme aside, this is a surprisingly poor movie.
