It's no definitive masterpiece but it's damn close.
Admirable film.
This is a tender, generous movie that likes its characters and presents them as real people, full of flaws and strengths.
The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
Veteran-turned-mercenary Toorop takes the high-risk job of escorting a woman from Russia to America. Little does he know that she is host to an organism that a cult wants to harvest in order to produce a genetically modified Messiah. Interesting, Smart but also quite entertaining as a whole 'Babylon A.D.' is a futuristic event starring Vin Diesel (The Fast and The Furious) but also alot more actors too. The film has alot of good action but also some pretty good twists and although is no masterpiece? It's far from awful as many people said too. (8/10)
This is prob one of the worst films I've seen in recent years.Vin Diesel can not act. He is only stereotyped into tough guy roles as thats all he can play. The film is one gigantic mess. Apparently Vin has to escort and deliver some chick and her Asian sidekick to America from Russia. (From Russia with love lol.) It seems she has some kind of special powers, tho we are never told exactly what/who she is and what these magical powers are.But what I do know, is that it seem the Asian lady and Vin lost their lives protecting her for nothing because the girl was able to dodge bullets and rockets with her magical powers anyway......A really stupid contrived film. I was bored throughout. Vin Diesel is a one trick pony and even as an 'action' star he sucks.Do not waste you time on Babylon A.D, is really is not worth yours or anyones time.
Terrible script, terrible storyline, cheap graphics, total rip of Blade Runner, practically shot for shot in places, the ending makes no sense, and i like Kassovitz, La Haine was amazing, he was great in Amelie, just the worst film ever, Babylon AD, big dull dud, Vin Diesal mutters through out. All it needs is the Wilhelm scream, nothing is explained in ad i don't need to see a dead cat chopped up and eaten. Gerard Depardieu looks like a potato, it also rips off Star Wars when hes in Tattooine, god i cant hate this film enough. Im sure there is a wall with wet paint on it that is preferable to watching this film, its 90 minutes of my life i wont get back, what about Ramplings character? What happens to her? she just walks off after apparently searching for her kid for years, come on! I mean the only difference is she actually stayed fully clothed for once. Avoid at all costs.
I thought this Vin Diesel vehicle would probably be a bit rubbish; while it is no Citizen Kane it is fairly entertaining with Vin Diesel doing what he does best; going into a dangerous situation and surviving against the odds. Here he plays Toorop; a mercenary who has been hired to transport a girl called Aurora and her chaperone from Russia to New York. It won't be easy as he must get out of a chaotic Russia and get into the United States despite being on a terrorist watch list. To make matters worse both her father and a cult who believe that she is the Messiah that will give them recognition as a major religion want the girl. Their journey is action packed; involving fights, shootouts and a race across the ice on snowmobiles while being chased by deadly drone aircraft. This was a decent way to pass an hour and a half; Vin Diesel did a good enough job as our hero Toorop, Michelle Yeoh was good if somewhat underused as Sister Rebeka, Aurora's chaperone and Mélanie Thierry did a reasonable job as the enigmatic Aurora. The action was well handled; I especially liked the chase across the ice. The story itself wasn't that dazzling but wasn't bad. While this is a science fiction film don't expect vast amounts of cool futuristic gadgets; it is set in the not too distant future so most of the technology is present day, there are just a few things that don't exist. I wouldn't recommend buying this unless it is in the bargain bin or you are a big Vin Diesel fan but if it is on television it is worth checking out.
