Sorry, this movie sucks
hyped garbage
This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.
By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.
This motion picture tells the tale of a Father, played by Bill Farmer, who increasingly finds that he is unable to relate to his Son, played by Jason Marsden, who has grown up much too quickly to his father's dismay and now prepares to leave for his studies at a distant University. The story follows the often complicated relationship between the two and the struggles that the father has in realizing that while once he was a rolemodel and a hero to his son, he is now an embarrassment and a public shame. The characteristics and traits that his son often admired and emulated as a child have become "uncool" to the son as the peer pressures of popularity and life at college have now taken precedence. Follow this tale as the father goes to extreme measures to find common ground and, ultimately, acceptance as the often flawed and imperfect single father who has put aside his hopes and dreams for his own life in order to provide a full and enriching life for his son. While this film is animated, it is not of particular importance to a young viewership as the themes and sub-themes are mature and require a deeper understanding of young adulthood. Nevertheless, Disney has woven an impeccable tale of the ever important relationship of father and son through the lens of a comedy-adventure which hearkens back to such classic films as Animal House, National Lampoons Summer Vacation, Old School, and Back to School. In fact, Farmer's character does seem to possess characteristics and elements from such actors as Chevy Chase, Walter Mathau, Jack Lemmon, Will Farrell, and, of course, the late Rodney Dangerfield.
I'll admit, there were a few good points in this film. Max goes to college, which shows us that he's moving into a new life. Goofy falls in love again, which I found to be most interesting. And new characters are introduced. But this film falls into the lower C to higher D category. For one thing, I was disappointed to see that all they focused on in college was skateboarding. I mean, Max should focus more on academics than on his sporting skills. Goofy's job is not very well introduced. I thought he worked as a photographer in a department store. Bebe Neuwirth and Vicki Lewis were interesting additions to the film. But the beret girl isn't given a name, so that was stupid. Also, WHAT IN THE WORLD OF Disney HAPPENED TO MAX'S CRUSH, ROXANNE? They never say what had happened to her. Lastly, I thought that the relationship between Goofy and Max had improved and brought them closer together, which was one of the main themes of the first film. In this film, they are right back to where they started. Terrible plot, terrible characters, and terrible animation.1/10
The other day I was on a Disney sequel fix, An Extremely Goofy Movie was next on my list, A Goofy Movie is such a funny Disney movie, so I was kinda looking forward to watching An Extremely Goofy Movie, even if it was a sequel. So I watched it this movie this morning and I have to say that it still has the same good laughs and goofs as the first one. Although I think that Max is still kind of a jerk in this one, lol, but Goofy is still a lot of fun. I loved how they contributed disco once again to this movie and Goofy's dance with his date was so much to watch. I also loved that the voices were kept by the same as in the first Goofy movie, because normally if the voices are different from the original Dinsey movie, I do get distracted, so it was so cool that the original cast returned for this fun sequel.Max is all grown up with the guys, and they are off to college to have fun and have a hopeful future, especially one without Max's dad, Goofy. But when Goofy gets fired from his job, he goes to the unemployment office and they have no jobs for him, unless he gets his degree. He's going to school again, and guess with who? Max! That's right, him and his son are taking the same classes and he's embarrassing Max with his old school dress code and act. But Goof turns out to be more popular than his son, especially when he beats Max at a skateboarding contest. An Extremely Goofy Movie is really a lot of fun to watch. I think my favorite scene was actually when Max tells the frat jerks off and the whole club that he and the boys are in snap them away, it reminded me of West Side Story, probably was a homage, who knows, right? But Goofy really does steal the show, he's just so much fun to watch and is always a classic. I would recommend An Extremely Goofy Movie, especially if you enjoyed the first Goofy movie, this one will not be a disappointment, trust me.7/10
wileyjp, how much are you paid to horribly bad-sass perfectly okay movies? $1 million? Two?First off, we all have different opinions on what makes a good cartoon character. And I don't remember any law of a character like Goofy turning from a care-free athletically-challenged guy to a caring father... oh, did I neglect to mention the fact that he's still athletically-challenged for all of you out there?Anyway, SPEAK FOR YOURSELF ON THE GOOFY-FANS OPINION OF THE SHOW! For all you know, many Goofy fans out there may have LOVED the TV show!"I am insulted by the fact that the movie claims that Goofy was in college in the '70's. He was an adult in the 1930's, meaning he was more likely a college student in the 1870's" Ugh! Just reading that makes me want to gag or bang my head off the keyboard (like Wade did in KP episode "Naked Genius") or both! HELLO!? You're making him sound ancient, or like some witch! Even though Goofy cartoons have been living that long HE STILL HAS A NORMAL LIFE-SPAN!"Oh yeah, AND it introduces him to Sylvia, the college librarian, a fellow child of the Summer of Love, and they *gag* GO ON A DATE!!!! This is a hole from which Disney will NEVER be able to dig themselves out. There was a REASON Goofy was not given a "Minnie Mouse" of his own. Goofy is a simple character, and giving him romance with a (hopefully) one-shot character does nothing but kill him" I... I am so shocked with you for saying that! [for this part, Dan's on the verge of tears] YOU SHOULD BE PROUD OF GOOFY! He now has his own girl to love. He's happy. AND THAT SHOULD BE ENOUGH FOR YOU, YOU HORRIBLE SELFISH PIG!!! [bawls like mad][Later, Dan comes back to continue] And where did the brat thing come from? Max was embarrassed by his dads, well, goofy-ness. HAVE YOU EVER HEARD THE EXPRESSION "BABY STEPS"?As for the Pete thing, it wasn't like HE was going back to college! Just be satisfied your precious villain--that's right! Villain!--appeared at all!As for Roxanne, for all we know, she could be going to a different college! As for your comments for the sporting events, NO ONE ASKED WHETHER YOU THOUGHT THEY WERE UNREALISTIC OR NOT! AS LONG AS IT WAS FUNNY AND/OR ENJOYABLE! AND I FOUND IT TO BE GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME!Goofy fans, I assure you, wileyjp is just being one-minded on this. He/she shouldn't be acting like ALL Goofy fans agree with him/her on everything about the Goofy stuff! You may or may not enjoy this movie, but wileyjp should NOT make you judge the "Goof Troop", "A Goofy Movie", or "An Extremely Goofy Movie" just on what she says, just because you're the fans of the same character!Just a message to you all, just because, as a fan, you think that something ruined that thing you liked, DOES NOT MEAN THAT OTHER FANS THINK THE SAME WAY YOU DO!THE DEFENSE RESTS!
