Fresh and Exciting
best movie i've ever seen.
It's complicated... I really like the directing, acting and writing but, there are issues with the way it's shot that I just can't deny. As much as I love the storytelling and the fantastic performance but, there are also certain scenes that didn't need to exist.
Fun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.
I haven't watched the TV show about the Land of the Lost from the 70's. But I really enjoyed this comedy.Sure one has to ignore some things that make no sense. Like how can Holly speak Chaka's language so well? But this is easy to ignore. This is after all a silly comedy, the kind Will Ferrell does. And one gets to enjoy it if one is also into this kind of humor. And I must say I was not expecting all the things that were about to come. I loved the whole quarrel between Dr. Marshall and the dinosaur. As well as all the stuff that he was teaching them about the dino. And Chaka was also a great addition to the story. Lots of laughter and action. Nothing serious about the movie.
Will Ferrell shows his mettle as the Crown Prince of cinematic comedy, applying visual gags from every Hollywood comic come before him, from Buster Poindexter and Harold Loyd and Chaplin through to Eddie Murphy. As the average smarts smart man's Adam Sandler fan, he, with his sidekick - that guy from Eastbound and Down - even manage to slur Polish people. Lots of lines fall flat, including the gag about men liking show tunes. I mean, why?!? While not recapturing the innocent charm of the original series, which forms my earliest TV-viewing memories, the laugh count, the standard measure of any comedy production, stands at 3 halfway through. Not really a high figure on the face of it, it still is infinitely times more funny than any Adam Sandler movie ever made. Just to reinforce this a little bit for the slow readers - lots of funny shtuff. A six on the scale of 1 to 10 is actually a 10 on the comedy B movie scale, by the way. Survey question: Are you watching this on basic cable? If so, it is likely thanks to the fact that Land of the Lost lost lots of moo la upon original release.
First off, unless you like the type of comedy that Will Farrell brings to the screen just move on to something else. He's childish and immature in (nearly) every film he's done which while it worked well in Elf really fails here.I was intrigued enough here only because I recall the old television show. Despite how poorly done and cheesy everything about it was, I was hopeful that the movie would be a creative adaptation. Unfortunately this was not the case.We are led to believe that Farrell plays the part of some kind of scientific genius who was made fun of by his peers. Of course, he turns out to be right and builds a device which is able to use tachyon particle to travel thru time. Mind you, the prop used in the film is beyond embarrassing - looking like little more than a computer board and a speaker. And it just gets worse from there.Farrell and two others randomly travel into the past where somehow his female counterpart (Anna Friel) understands the language of some of the natives even though her character's intelligence would be just as useful behind the Clinique counter. The film is all over the place, lacking in plot or direction, devoid of humor, and deserving of razzies and rotten tomatoes. I couldn't even get thru the first hour before I just turned it off.
Don't be scared off by the low rating, this comedy is definitely worth your time. Danny McBride and Will Ferrell aren't the only source of laughs with its crazy scenes and plot. It manages to be exciting and adventurous without being strung out and forced. All the comedy flows, nothing feels forced or tired. Every scene has humor in it, even during serious points of the movie. Unlike Adam Sandler movies, where everything is forced and cliché, this is fun to watch. Despite a relatively low budget, the fx aren't bad at all except where they're supposed to look cheap for humorous effect. Memorable movie worthy of watching many times.
