Best movie ever!
If the ambition is to provide two hours of instantly forgettable, popcorn-munching escapism, it succeeds.
It is neither dumb nor smart enough to be fun, and spends way too much time with its boring human characters.
The movie is made so realistic it has a lot of that WoW feeling at the right moments and never tooo over the top. the suspense is done so well and the emotion is felt. Very well put together with the music and all.
In my opinion this movie is in the same league as the greatest of british romcoms. This is a warm and sincere romantic movie that captures that gorgeous feeling of falling in love.
As I saw "Gray Matters", i know where this late stinker has found inspiration: it's the same plot (a lesbian love struck after wedding) but transplanted in the perfidy Albion. Sure, all the cards are shuffled as it's not exactly the same dynamic between the characters or the same ending. My judgment is that here, everything is better: the cast, the locations, the characters. Piper is a great torn newcomer, Ozymandias is a supportive husband and Queen Lena embodies perfectly responsibility. The American clichés are gone: bye bye the extravaganza (except than here the families are still upper class), bye bye the coming-out repentance. Here, it's more about feelings but at the end, for me, it remains still very implausible for me. In fact, this kind of movie hurt two fundamentals and i always failed to get into.First, if I really believe in love struck, I exclude it about orientation. In others word, i can't think that one morning, you get up and fell for the same sex, especially after you married the opposite. It's like saying that chicken has teeth, pigs can fly or an unstoppable force meets an unmovable object. Second, my faith is that the Yes Wedding is an unbreakable vow: i understand why marriage is often a religious affair: for me, if there's a something that can't be broken, it's that word. I don't say that marriage will be always heaven, but the vow is the way to find solutions when downs appears! So, it's really until death do part.
Rachel (Piper Perabo) and Heck (Matthew Goode) are newlyweds, but Rachel slowly falls for the gay florist Luce (Lena Headey). It's good that even a lesbian rom-com can be unfunny and bland. Now, they are truly mainstream. This is a British film and there's a chance I missed all the jokes because of the accent. I highly doubt it. None of the leads have much comedic experiences. They are all good actors. What little experience they have is to be the straight man (pun unintended) in a comedic film. It's not that I think the dialog was delivered improperly. It starts off with dropping the wedding ring in the punch bowl. I see they were trying for some slapstick there, but like the rest, it failed. In fact, it all failed. It seems they can't hit their mark even with the porn setup. I'm very doubtful if the director knows how to do comedy.
I loved this movie since the first moment. It's witty and sweet, and funny, so you'll actually enjoy the movie. I felt bad for Heck at some point, he was just too good, but what Rachel felt with Luce was true love, love at first sight, and for Rachel luck, Luce was a lesbian, so she can be sure that Luce'd love her back without any complications. The only complication was Heck, who was very understandable at the end, and even if he gets hurts he'd love to see Rachel happy with Luce.Maybe it gives a bad message, kinda, I mean, leaving your husband some weeks after, even though Rachel was willing to stay with him, but he decided it was unfair for her, she needed to be happy and by his side she'd never be complete. The love story between Rachel and Luce was sweet and funny, and had a happy ending without being so corny and unrealistic. What an awesome movie, I really liked and is one of my favorites. It also support the idea of loving someone of your same sex, which is not wrong, so I liked that message too. I really recommend this.
