Highly Overrated But Still Good
Fun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.
The film may be flawed, but its message is not.
This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.
This absolutely horrid waste of celluloid is not only incomprehensible, it's something far worse -- slow. Ten seconds between each line of dialogue. It's that bad. I mean, PAINFUL. Excruciating. Worst direction of a horror film/thriller in the history of filmmaking. The idiot who directed it should never be allowed on a movie set ever again. EVER!!! Gellar mumbles all her lines in her usual monotonous, brain-dead trademark style, as though she's reciting the phone book half asleep. Runs around with sleeves covering her hands in typical, infantile teenage-retard fashion. Sam Shepard's not too bad -- but he's in this sorry snore-fest all of 30 seconds.Watch this film, and then kill yourself. Or do yourself a favor, and kill yourself first. You'll be glad you did.
The Return: Sarah Michelle Gellar's performance is fantastic. Has to be one of the best supernatural thrillers i have seen in a long long time. This one honestly had me on the edge of my seat, with its scares and very well thought out storyline and or though it is similar to a few others out there its just so well done i thoroughly enjoyed this one more then any other.Sarah Michelle Gellar plays Joanna Mills a young business woman who does a lot of travel. Joanna drives to Texas where she becomes haunted by daydreams and night terrors of a gruesome and brutal murder that occurred 15 years earlier.Plagued by the violent memories and visions Joanna decides she must get to the truth of all this. She befriended Terry Stahl played by Peter O'Brien who stopped an attack on Joanna and it becomes clear no one seems to like him very much.Joanna Become aware that Terry Stahl is involved somehow and tries to talk with him this doesn't work out and Joanna must now work out her violent visions on her own. By chance she works out what has happened and now her life is in danger......I highly recommend this film as i mentioned before this is one of the best supernatural thrillers i have seen.
Why did Sam Shepard get involved in that business? This is the umpteenth story of past events which come pack to haunt you and might possibly "return" .Sarah Michelle Gellar -who has known better days in the fantasy and horror genre -portrays a strange girl, who at work can be tough and a real winner (her colleague gets jealous!),but who cannot cope with mysterious things which happened long ago when she was still a little girl.Maybe if the part of the father had been less underwritten ,it could have been a task equal to Sheppard's talent.I'd take "I know what you did last summer" (and even its sequel) over "the return " any day.
The Return is one of those under-appreciated thrillers that was marketed as 'horror'. For horror fans, beware, The Return does not have gore, it does not have people screaming, or cheesy chase scenes or killers. This is a more sophisticated adult mystery film. The Return is thankfully, different than modern-day thrillers. It has a slow pace, but has very beautiful imagery and cinematography. The acting is solid, and Sarah Michelle Gellar commands the screen with her quiet presence. Many people might feel restless, but at the end, the film's twist relies a lot on character and exposition, and that is why The Return works. It has many themes of life and death, together with some usual scares and some character drama. I was very pleasantly surprised, and I hope The Return gets the recognition it deserves in the future. It is one of the best, and most unique, thrillers of the decade
