Undescribable Perfection
Sadly Over-hyped
Fun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.
It's a movie as timely as it is provocative and amazingly, for much of its running time, it is weirdly funny.
I think Danny Trejo shouldn't go for major roles but just stick to some minor appearances. He's just not a great actor, at least not good enough to play leading roles. He fits better in small parts where he has to play the villain. Badd Ass 2 isn't great, with a weak story, one of those stories you saw a lot before and way better. Danny Glover should call it quits by now. In this movie it looks all forced and his past natural comedy talent isn't the same in Bad Ass 2. I saw they made a third one but I honestly think I'm going to pass on that one. I can get that some people like those kind of movie but it's not for me. Story too weak and actors not on top.
Not spectacular in any ways but if you like liked the first one then I don't see why you shouldn't at least enjoy this one.Plotwise I guess it's nothing that's gonna win any awards, fairly similar to the first one but I really enjoy Danny Trejo as Frank Vega.Usually Trejo gets to play only one-dimensional angry all the time bad asses but Frank Vega has a little more layers to him, of course he's still bad ass but he does have a more sensitive side to him as well as being rather funny from time to time. And Danny Glover is a nice addition to the franchise, even though there are limitations to what he can do in terms of bad assness his character is funny.Dante Basco is listed in the credits, but honestly I didn't see him, and I imagine I would have recognized him if I did... But he's listed as 'gangly Asian guy' so maybe he was in the background in some scene. Or his scene were cut out for some reason. Just thought I'd point that out.Anyways yeah if you liked the first one give it a go, have not seen the third one yet but is looking forward to doing so when possible.
The original Bad Ass was not really a bad movie. Not great but enjoyable. So I thought it would be worthwhile to watch the second one as well. Danny Trejo and Danny Glover certainly sounded like it could be a fun combination. Unfortunately this movie was a bit of a disappointment. The movie felt tired a lot of the time. Danny Trejo was not bad but Danny Glover never really felt like a bad ass and his fart jokes was definitely more bad taste than bad ass.The story was fairly whimsical and unintelligent. Some things were just poorly done. Like for instance Frank blowing up a chopper by throwing a hand grenade at it from a car. It was so poorly done that I just sat there thinking what the f ? And then on the end where they kill (of course) the main bad guy and Bernie claims that there he got his liver and that they should put the guy on ice. It actually looks like whoever wrote that crap actually believed in it as well since the final scenes implies that Bernie got his liver transplant. What kind of an idiot writes something like that. Heard about transplant compatibility requirements? Oh, and that nonsense with the ice-pick. If you get an icepick showed all the way into your head through your eye you most likely die. You do not walk around the next day with nothing but an eye patch. Then we have this diplomatic immunity crap. It really doesn't work that simple. You might get away with a few speeding tickets but you cannot go on a crime spree and expect not to be expelled at least. That stuff might have been okay in Lethal Weapon but now it is really just dumb.On the whole I have to say that I was rather disappointed with this movie. The first one was better and that one was enjoyable but not great to begin with. There are some fun moments, some decent fighting and so on so it is not a total turkey but disappointing nonetheless.
I enjoyed first bad ass movie and after that i had some thirst for a second run of bad ass. i didn't think they are going to make a sequel since it didn't get much attention. but the creators were brave enough to take it for a another run. i respect their guts.and the movie bad asses (bad ass 2) started just the way i hoped it. Frank was not the useless old man he once was, but he is a respected member of the community doing something with his skills while helping youngsters to earn some respect in the world. only part i was disappointed was not having the characters Amber and Martin as Frank's lover and step son.and also partnering up with Danny Glover was a good idea.Bad ass teamed up with the grumpy old man. unrealistic, still funny, funny characters, good fight scenes, good car chase scene, average story, average acting, bad ass-ism all over the movie, love, hate, respect quite a good movie to lighten up your day.
