It’s sentimental, ridiculously long and only occasionally funny

It is a whirlwind of delight --- attractive actors, stunning couture, spectacular sets and outrageous parties.

It must have happened to you to thoroughly analyze a movie and you can not find any flaws. It seems perfect, and yet it did not blow you away, or even worse, it left you completely indifferent. Simply, it lacks a "certain something" that would make it ten. Yet, some apparently imperfect movies you can not help but give a ten, because they simply feel like tens. This "certain something" we could call the "soul" of the movie that somehow clicks with the soul of the viewer and results in deeply meaningful experience.I can not say that this film is significantly worse than "The Omen". Moreover, I'm not sure that it is technically worse at all. But "The Omen" has a soul, it has that something that makes it one of the best movies of all time, while "Damien: Omen II" simply doesn't. Everything is there, and everything is in place, but somehow it didn't click. The movie is a worthy sequel to "The Omen" and I warmly recommend it, but while "The Omen", after just one viewing, remains stuck in the soul and mind forever, "Damien" will entertain you well, but I doubt that it will leave a deeper impression on anyone.8/10

I graded this Omen sequel 7, rounded up from 6.66. Interestingly, the user rating for this movie is 6.3, 0.36 short of 6.66. Now that would be symbolic I guess.Anyway, this movie ain't child's play, and much has been written about The Omen. When I first watched it, I thought "omen" meant something awful or negative. But "omen" is a neutral word but thanks to this scary motion picture, we associate it with a 666 kid- running-amok. Anyway, after the movie screened, I can imagine parents nervously checking for 666 marks on their kids' scalps and re-familiarizing themselves with the Book of Revelation. But a word of caution for parents in this predicament...the 666 may in fact be 999, as the absence of an underline on the kid's scalp may confuse things, and a 999 kid is innocent. One of the most chilling scenes in movie history (well at least in the Omen series) is when the old guy floats beneath the ice rink.

Damien Omen 2 is adorned with solid actors like William Holden, Lance Henriksen, Lee Grant and the sinister looking Jonathan Scott Taylor. These seasoned actors lend an air of seriousness and importance to this sequel. There was something very grim and ominous about this film. This feeling was accentuated by the scene where Damien laments about why he has been chosen to carry out Satan's plan. The thinly veiled social commentary did not seem to be out of place - the mixing of cruel capitalism and the military industrial complex is Satan's work. The great locales combined with the richness of life of the upper class family makes for a great visual experience.I am not surprised that a lot of fans have called Damien Omen 2 one of the best horror sequels.

While the original "The Omen" was brilliant, this first sequel seemed to stumble around for a plot. There is none. It's just a succession of grisly murders that will make way for "the beast". Now your horror fans that like that kind of cheap bloody horror, will be satisfied with this, despite a lack of substance. The cast alone would make you expect a fine sequel. William Holden, Lee Grant, Robert Foxworth, Lew Ayres, and Sylvia Sidney. What more could you want? Well, a little acting that would you make you invest in the characters would have been nice. We get a little of that from veteran actress Sylvia Sydney, but she is killed off within the first few minutes of the film. And, perhaps we get a little from Lew Ayres, but his demise -- an old man playing ice hockey -- just doesn't quite seem to make sense, although the special effects of him drowning under the ice was nicely done. William Holden was often a remarkable actor. But everything seemed to go downhill for him after "Network", just 2 years previous. Here, his performance is nothing but disappointing. Lee Grant had to be in just the right kind of role to be really enjoyable on the big screen; this was not that kind of role. Dismissed. And Robert Foxworth just seems so mechanical here. And then there's the "why" of certain plot angles. The military school aspect works, but the scenario with the sergeant just seems to drift with no purpose, although it's clear that he is on the side of evil. The one plot twist that is worthwhile here is Lee Grant murdering William Holden (wife murdering husband) at the climax of the film. I didn't see that coming.Watch this if you can stomach it. Its only real value is to fill the gap between the first and third films.
