Pretty good movie overall. First half was nothing special but it got better as it went along.

Entertaining from beginning to end, it maintains the spirit of the franchise while establishing it's own seal with a fun cast

A movie that not only functions as a solid scarefest but a razor-sharp satire.

This film is an international film, and once you start watching it you can already tell that the whole movie is not in English, but rather in Spanish, and this is what makes it so captivating to watch. The film is not like most American films that people are used to watching, most American films end with a happy ending or the protagonist in the film ends up having a great life at the end of the film, sometimes even better than before. What makes international films so intriguing is that it is different, but different in a unique and special way. If I had to describe the setting of this film it would be depressing, and violent. I really enjoyed how the film showed daily life in Central America, and how Spanish speaking peoples are affected by gangs. The characters in this film is what made the movie so intriguing to watch, the way they showed their feelings throughout the film, and the way they acted, is what made the movie realistic to similar life situations . This film does include some sexual contact, blood/violence, so if this is not what you prefer to watch, then this film is not the right choice for you. I believe Sin Nombre was a really great film, because it got it's point across, and you can really see what's going on in Central America, and learn about something that you weren't aware of before, or knew of but didn't know how it affects people in Central America . I would give it a 4 out of 5 stars

(NAMELESS in English) SIN NOMBRE is a movie about people you know. They cook your food, bus your table, and wash your dishes every time you eat at a restaurant. When you go on vacation; they make your bed, change your sheets and clean up your mess. They probably cut your grass and tend your garden, too...and Lord knows what else! Oh, Yes, these are ALL people you know, but don't see. They were invisible, NAMELESS...until SIN NOMBRE! One of the most powerful, enlightening, depressing, and yet, strangely uplifting films I've seen this year. As NAMELSS ended, I was anxious to see who the executive producers were. I now have newfound respect and admiration for both Diego Luna and Gael Garcia Bernal (Worked together in "Y Tu Mama Tambien" and "Rudo y Cursi"). They were the movers and shakers of SIN NOMBRE. They bank-rolled it and made it happen. And it was about time! This is a story that was crying out to be told!…...Well, two stories, actually. Mara Salvatrucha is a gang/criminal organization with 100K members throughout the U.S. and Central America (Wikipedia). Human smuggling and trafficking is one of their primary sources of income. Here, we get a chilling, first-hand look into this international gangland organization and how they corrupt, destroy and exploit children and youth.NAMELESS presents this twisted reality and lets the facts speak for themselves. Willy 'El Casper' is a member of the Mara Salvatrucha gang in Tapachula, Chiapas, Mexico. He helps initiate Smiley into the gang. The gang leader Lil Mago tries to rape and accidentally kills his girlfriend Martha. Lilo Mago takes Casper and Smiley to rob migrants on the train. Sayra is there with her father and uncle on their way to the New Jersey. Lilo Mago tries to rape her and Casper kills him. Smiley goes back to report to the new leader but he's accused of helping Casper. Smiley vows to kill Casper who has escaped on the train with Sayra's help. The gang goes all out to track down Casper.The performances are natural. The gangster story is scary. The migrant story is engaging. It is intense and poignant. It is director Cary Fukunaga's first full length film and he shows a real eye for the material.

One thing that pulled my ratings down for this film is that the plot structure contains too many clichéd elements that don't seem to fit well with everything else. However, even with that taken into account, the movie did not disappoint too much fortunately, because its focus was on the smaller puzzles that make up the lives of the communities in question, rather than the lovey-dovey/gangster glorification/unneeded sense of insecurity/'bad boy' elements that are seen too much in movies nowadays.The director did present fruitful details resulting from extensive research of living with these subjects, whether on top of a train or in the midst of a cold inner empire of the gangsters. the REsult, A much more penetrative, underside view on the effects of poverty in a Latin community unseen in other movies, which typically lack the courage to be that direct. That is the beauty of this movie.
