The thing I enjoyed most about the film is the fact that it doesn't shy away from being a super-sized-cliche;

This has all the perks of a good production, acting, etc...But to me the whole movie feels like US propaganda, like an excuse for all the bad it did and still does, but I must admit that the ending gives a good message and offsets that a little bit. It's a bit more than worth watching, but don't expect greatness, especially in realistic storyline..

Greetings from Lithuania."The Kingdom" (2007) is by far the best movie Peter Berg has ever made, and i saw all of them. This was definitely one of the best movies of 2007, saw it like 4-5 times now. Its pacing is incredible - the movie opening titles are worth the admission and the opening itself, but we are just getting worm there.Basically "The Kingdom" is a procedural movie with some incredible action scenes in between, as well as ideas about today's war with terrorism and as one of the character puts it - "it will never end, w'll kill them all". The sound design of this movie is incredible and while some of the scenes might play as a bit to cheese, they always have what to show beyond it.Overall, "The Kingdom" is definitely and excellent action thriller set in a very relevant place. Acting is superb by all involved, craftsmanship of the movie is first rate and its just a hell of a ride from start till finish. Great movie.

As a Saudi man who has lived in the country for more than 20 years, I have to say, this has got to be the most inaccurate movie in the History of cinema. But I won't deny I had fun watching it haha :) This movie is so funny I spent the whole evening on the floor laughing with my friends. No wonder Saudi's image is distorted in the West, it's because they get their information about different cultures from prejudiced sourced like this. How can something as diverse and ancient as the culture of Saudi Arabia be narrowed down into one word "terrorism" is beyond my comprehension. I don't want to get too political with my review, but I'll just point out one thing: Saudi Arabia is 100 times safer then the safest US state, I know because I have lived in both countries. The scene where the guy goes to Suwaidi district and faces a bazooka was painfully stupid, in reality you may face a generous Saudi Bedouin who will greet you to come into his house and serve you some dates, qahwa (Arabic coffee), and might even prepare a feast for you even if he doesn't know who you are. This is the true Saudi Arabia that's not shown in movies or elsewhere. There was also another scene that really bothered me when the Col. Al Ghazi offered the woman to sleep in the bathroom, WOW really? Saudis are probably the most fanatic people in the world when it comes to respecting women and respecting families,nothing comes CLOSE to the amount of reverence and protection of the family bond than it is in Saudi Arabia. Remember that the middle east is the region where the whole concept of family and marriage formed way back thousands of years ago. Even the word "hormah" in Arabic that is used referring to women is derived from the Arabic word "Ihtiram" which literally means respect. I'm pretty sure all of this is a big shock to the West who've been told all along that Arabia is a land where women are 'mistreated' and 'opressed', not knowing that the hijab has been around in Arabia even before Islam. In any case, our country isn't perfect and we do face some challenges and a form of clash between our values and modern requisites due to the oil boom. But it will not help the Saudi people or humanity as a whole by misinforming people day and night about different cultures and spreading fear, hate and Xenophobia. Something a movie like "The Kingdom" does pretty well.

I was intrigued by this movie when I caught it on NetFlix a few years ago (sadly, it's no longer available there). An elite FBI team (for some reason) lobbies for, and then is assigned, despite much opposition, to investigate a well-planned terrorist attack on an American compound in the 'Kingdom', presumably Saudi Arabia. Jamie Foxx and Chris Cooper are compelling (I will watch anything with Chris Cooper in it - awesome in supporting roles in 'Horse Whisperer, 'Sea Biscuit' and the Bourne entries, and magnificent in 'Breach'), as are the actors who play the Arab nationals who 'host' the FBI team.There is much culture clash to be overcome when the FBI team arrives, toting Jennifer Garner as the mandated-by-cliché tough chick. A lot of conflict must be overcome if the team is to get to the bottom of the who and how causes of the attack, including restrictions on where the team may stray in their investigation, plus some conflict with the embittered American nationals who were the object of the attack.A surprise abduction and attempted rescue climaxes this story, which will have your pulse racing, but, generally, I found the dialogue between Jamie Foxx's team and the Arab liaison staff, plus the growing bond of friendship, most compelling. You will have to put up with an (unnecessary) array of f-bombs, unless you catch a sanitized version of the film. 9/10
