The Switch

Kassie is a smart, fun-loving single woman who, despite her neurotic best friend Wally’s objections, decides it’s time to have a baby – even if it means doing it herself… with a little help from a charming sperm donor. But, unbeknownst to her, Kassie’s plans go awry because of a last-minute switch that isn’t discovered until seven years later… when Wally gets acquainted with Kassie’s cute, though slightly neurotic, son.

It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. This is hands down Jennifer Aniston's worst post "Friends" movie. It is dire and some of the blame must fall at the lovely Aniston's door.Straight off Jennifer Aniston plays the usual Jennifer Aniston type of role just as Jason Bateman plays his usual Jason Bateman type of role. Nothing new from either of them, both seem to be on autopilot and for that it's boring alone. Then throw the awful, cliché ridden script in, some awful direction, and a weak supporting cast who, with the exception of Jeff Goldblum and Juliette Lewis (and I'm being generous to the latter) seem to medley be there to make up the numbers and its a dull affair all round. I did manage to make it all the way through, which is something, but I'm not sure why I did cos it certainly wasn't out of interest in what was happening or an interest in the outcome.Jeff Goldblum who has saved worse movies than this has his work cut out here.

The movie is very very slow paced. DIALOGUES: The whole movie is jam-packed with the following kinds of dialogs:"I.. uh.. I..I..I-I...uh...I just wanted to say something" (Really you ducking dork? It took you so much time just to say that much finally?)"You...uh..uh... you...uh... I've seen.. uh.. I've felt... that...uh.. in the last few days.. uh.. in the last one month actually... uh... ever since I'm back... uh.. I've seen you that...uh... I've felt this energy... uh.. with you... uh... with us.. uh... right?.... uh? (silence) right?... (silence)... uh?... oh my god!!""I...uh.. think... that'll be great! Yeah!!... that'll be great! that'll be great! that'll be great!! Yeah!... uh-huh""I...uh.... I'm really sorry... that...uh....I think...uh.. that....uh"Well how did it feel to read the above dialogs? Now imagine going through that repeatedly with NO plot progress for 90 minutes. (In a tone like I'm doubting that I'm actually speaking) How...uh... how.. uh... how would that... uh... feel?Plot line: The name of the movie is "The Switch" and the guy doesn't come to know about his own switch until 50-60% of the movie. There is no real plot. I can summarize the whole plot in 2-3 lines max but it's all dragged out over this entire stretch.CHARACTERS: The characters act very cautious about everything. If they're saying something it's very very slow and it's like they're slowly treading poisonous waters. What the duck! They're not talking to Aliens that they all need to calculate every word! They're talking to other ducking human beings! Haven't they done that already for so many years?Jeniffer Aniston is in a a particularly bitchy role. Throughout the movie she's constantly complaining, reacting, being abusive, demanding, stubborn. The characters all have a weird communication between them all. They try to say something but instead keep dragging it out endlessly filled with pointless sentences here and there. It's like everyone's speaking a different language and trying to communicate.COMEDY: There is NO comedy in this movie. ZERO. All the dialogs are serious. The scenes are silent with no background score. The characters don't laugh. They're all serious and angry the entire time.

Romantic comedy or just a Jennifer Aniston vehicle? You choose. Kassie(Aniston)is approaching middle age and hears that old clock ticking...she wants a baby. Best friend Wally(Jason Bateman)is fun, but hopelessly neurotic and is put in Kassie's 'not baby daddy' material list. Artificial insemination is chosen and Kassie decides to throw a big party to celebrate her decision. Wally pines for the love of his life and as the drunk pessimist spies the chosen sperm donor's sample in the bathroom...there is some manipulation with the sample vial.As the story progresses, Kassie needs to get out of New York City for it is just not the proper place to raise her child. After 7 years, Kassie returns with young son Sebastian(Thomas Robinson)in tow and desperately wants her sperm donor choice, Roland(Patrick Wilson), to bond with the lad. All the while, the ever narcssistic Wally can't help believing the boy has all his mannerisms. Not exactly funny, nor is the acting outstanding; but the movie has its charm. Personally, I was expecting more. Also sharing the screen: Juliette Lewis, Jeff Goldblum, Scott Elrod and Kelli Barrett.

Drinking can lead to many unfortunate things; one of the worse things is an accidental pregnancy, or worse a switched pregnancy. Jennifer Aniston stars along side Jason Bateman in what I like to call a dramady, or as most may know a drama comedy in The Switch. The movie, which was filmed back in 2010, takes place in current day New York City. It follows Wally (Bateman) in his unlucky love encounters with long time best friend Kassie (Aniston). I hope to enlighten you with my take and opinion on the movie, which may contain some spoilers for those who have not seen The Switch before. The first part of the movie follows Wally, who has been stuck in the friend zone with Kassie for years. The movie first takes a turn and becomes mildly interesting when she tells Wally she wants a surrogate baby. In my opinion, the movie starts out with nothing unusual. It has no real flare and feels like just another typical love story. Kassie, who has to pick the perfect sperm donor, has a party to welcome in the donor and his gift to her and Wally gets drunk at the party after meeting the handsome donor out of jealousy. The movie drags on a bit while Aniston's character is left out of the picture for a short period when she decides to move back home. Bateman's character is followed and is seen heartbroken over his love. His love is shown through mediocre acting, although I believe he is one of the better actors in Hollywood. After Wally is seen wallowing for much too long, he finds out Kassie is moving back to New York City with her son who is now 7 years old. Some how seven years has supposedly gone by in the movie since Aniston's character had moved away and yet no one and nothing has seemed to change; everything was the exact same except for Kassie's son was now in the picture. As Kassie and Wally get reacquainted, the sperm donor, Roland, comes back in as a recent divorcée and a possible love interest with Kassie. Roland, who is played by Patrick Wilson, has a very cold and unwelcoming side to him despite the fact he tries to be the cool, and fun father to Kassie's son. As the movie proceeds, the audience are taken on a much more interesting ride. We see Wally become very close with Kassie's son and develop a father son like relationship. As an audience, we noticed the similarities between both Wally and Kassie's son, something Wally notices too. The movie finally escalates when he ruins Kassie's engagement to Roland and admits his love for her and that her son is in fact his son too. With that being the most exciting part of the movie the rest can be summed up pretty easily. It is how every other love story ends, with a happy ending that comes at no surprise and while it is satisfying to finally see is nothing new. I found the overall movie to be a cute watch if you are in the mood for something predictable and easy to follow. The Switch was and is nothing that I would go out of my way to watch on a Friday night unless I was in bed with ice cream, mourning over a recent break up and needed to see a love story with a happy ending. The direction and camera work is nothing outstanding and at times it is even considerably bad. Some scenes like when Wally is at his bosses apartment questioning whether Sebastian is actually his son too, the camera seems to be shaky and distracts from the importance of it. This is apparent in more scenes than just this. What the movie lacks in is the richness of the characters and the character development, but is slightly made up for by the fact the two main actors are always fun to watch. The characters are shorted due to very average guiding on the directors part. Aniston and Bateman are both good actors that are not given the full opportunity to prove it in this very typical, cliché movie. Overall, I felt the movie was only something I could watch on rare occasions and would not recommend it to anyone else that was in the mood for a good movie or even a slightly interesting movie.
