Strong and Moving!
I don't have all the words right now but this film is a work of art.
Good films always raise compelling questions, whether the format is fiction or documentary fact.
In this movie Tod and Copper, as children, go to a county fair, and Copper's amazing singing abilities grants him a part in a show, where, soon enough, he disregards Tod and becomes a little spoiled. Tod joins this female dog who has recently been fired, for Copper, to dethrone him and for her to take back what was rightfully hers, and so Tod and Copper can be buddies again. In hindsight, this seems like a nice film. And in general, it is. It's cute and charming, with silly antics by both the fox and the hound. However, there is one giant flaw that makes this movie not as good as it can be. Anyone who's seen the first movie already knows this. Both Tod and Copper get separated later on, and as they grow up they lose their bond and stop being friends. And that's how it'll remain for the rest of their lives. Seeing this, and watching the two remain buddies at the end, it just gives me a bitter feeling in my belly. I already know what their future will be like, so seeing all this ended up being completely unnecessary. So in the end, this movie is cute and will probably entertain you and your child if you haven't seen the first movie yet, but for fans on the first one, this movie just... isn't right. It's nice and sweet and full of fun characters, but it just isn't right. So unfortunately I'm only able to rate this movie a 5 out of 10.P.S., thank the Heavens Tod can't sing. If I saw a baby fox singing country music I would've stopped the film right then and there.
I saw the original "Fox And The Hound" on Netflix. But once I did, I felt kind of sad and morbid, (I actually cried on my bed right after I saw it) the story had nice ideas, great characters, and all that good stuff. But the idea of two best friends becoming enemies and actually trying to kill each other is just not my cup of tea. I'm not saying that I hate the movie, I still think its one of the great Disney classics along with Robin Hood and Lady and the Tramp. I just think that it left me in a cloud of sadness and melancholy. Then I saw the sequel, and I was pleasantly surprised....This one actually relieved me of the bittersweet feeling I got with the first. The film is a prequel that starts all over and decides to change the ideas of the first one by lightening it up a little bit. (something that would normally be seen as a cop out, but for me it's perfect) So now we have a film that leaves me with a more positive feeling than a cold, dark one like with the original. Along with a good idea, the film has more things to keep it running, just to give one example, PATRICK FRIGGIN SWAYZE!!! Now with a guy like him, you can't go wrong, as he gives a great performance that you could get out of him. Now about the crappy reception the film is getting...Most people are striking this film on just the fact that it's not as good as the original, and thus give the film a thumbs down. The thing is when you're watching one of these sequels, you have to come in with an open mind, the least of expectations. Because you are watching a sequel, a film that will never be as good or as groundbreaking as the first. You just have to focus on the ideas about it trying to follow up or be prior to the first. So while some people just bash this film to the ground, others like me either give it a positive review, or like me, Two Thumbs Up!I consider this a great film to watch if you want to watch Fox and The Hound in a different way, or if you weren't satisfied with the first and want to see a more upbeat take.
They used Copper and Todd as young kids in the move, and at the End of the 1st movie they where all grown-up and they should have started them grown up. In all of the Disney 1st movies like Toy story Andy was little but in the 2nd movie he was a big kids, and also in lion King Simba is little lion and in the 2nd movie he is a big lion, also in the little mermaid Ariel fine Eric in the 1st movie and in the 2nd movie the has a daughter. I so not like the music in the movie I like the music in the 1st one better. I would not let my kids see the movie. My kids like the 1st one better. They do not have Big mama, Vixey, Dinky, Boomer. If they do a 3rd one I hope it is better then the 2nd one.
The original Fox and the Hound is a very charming and underrated film. The sequel/midquel had some cute moments and was average at best, but I did feel it lacked the charm of the predecessor, and it is and I quote "an inferior sequel". I will admit though that the animation is very very good, and the soundtrack decent and catchy. I also cannot deny that the voice acting was excellent, the standout easily being the late Patrick Swayze(may he rest in peace) as Cash. I liked the additional characters, and Todd is still really cute. However, the story is very weak, unfocused and predictable. The original's story focused on the friendship of Todd and Copper, and it was this that made the original so charming. Here, it was a nice idea, but there are a number of predictable moments and there was a lot of very little happening rather than focusing on the friendship. I don't think it helped that the writing was nothing to write home about. I also didn't like Copper in this, he wasn't much of a friend to Todd, and seemed selfish too. And where were Big Mama, Boomer and Dinky? I am probably one of the few people who really liked them in the original, and although the original voice actors have passed over since, they could have provided the humour with new voice actors. Plus the film is much too short. Because of these reasons, despite the redeeming qualities it definitely has, it was devoid of humour and most of the time charm. 5/10 for the animation, music and voice cast. Bethany Cox
