Gloria and Grace
Graça is a single mother who works as a massage therapist and lives with her two children: Moreno, 8, and Papoula, 15. One day, in a visit to the doctor, Graça is diagnosed with a brain aneurism that may rupture at any moment. Desperate about who will take care of her kids in the event of her death, she decides to go after her brother, Luiz Carlos, whom she hasn't seen in over 15 years due to a quarrel. When they meet, however, Luiz Carlos has become Gloria, a beautiful and successful transvestite, who now owns a restaurant and brags about being independent. At first, Gloria is unwilling to reconnect with her family; but as she becomes more guilt-stricken, she accepts Graça's invitation to meet her nephews and eventually realizes that maybe, to be complete, she needs to become a mother.

Simply A Masterpiece
Better Late Then Never
It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.
One of the worst ways to make a cult movie is to set out to make a cult movie.
Gloria is a trans woman who has taken charge of her life. She is independent, has a home, a successful restaurant and a young trans protégé living with her. Into this comes her estranged sister Grace and her two kids. Grace is dying and needs Gloria's help in looking after the children since she's got no other family. I saw this film at the Kashish International Queer Film Festival in Mumbai and it's an interesting feel-good depiction of a sorted transgender person. It's also a family drama, with the characters dredging out old secrets and grievances, as happens in all family themed films. Incidentally, Gloria gets herself a boyfriend in the film, a hunk who had the gay audience clapping and whistling! Good to see Brazil producing such a watchable LGBT film.
