Boring
if their story seems completely bonkers, almost like a feverish work of fiction, you ain't heard nothing yet.
The acting in this movie is really good.
Blistering performances.
Growing up I was always used to the mummy series that stared Brendan Fraisier. Nowadays, when I go back and watch this film, I can see the major similarities. Neat thing about this film is that the Mummy doesn't come to life and wreak havoc in the same day, nor does he simply go around trying to kill everyone in a day. For its time, this must have been a real thriller, because the enemy is not immediately known. It's been nearly a decade since the remains of Imhoptep were "stolen" and an Archaeologist went completely mad. Then all of a sudden, an old and wise Egyptian seems to know exactly where to find the remains of his long dead love. It's definitely a landmark film, beautifully made and casted wonderfully with the famous Boris Karloff. I would watch it again.
I'm a big nerd, I find analytics interesting regarding my viewing activity and I noticed that I had nothing at all from 1932 so The Mummy was a welcome addition. This is where The Mummy franchise truly began and was essentially where The Mummy (1999) came from.Starring original horror icon Boris Karloff as Imhotep the mummy who returns from the grave seeking the reincarnation of his beloved this is where it all began but did it deliver early on?For me The Mummy is a mixed bag. Yes it was highly original for it's time and looks surprisingly good but the performances are lacking and the finale is blunt and very poorly constructed.I'll give it this, it's considerably better than it's 2017 remake which was a true embarassment that took a simple concept and turned it into overblown Hollywood garbage.A classic, but not overly enjoyable (For me at least)The Good:Looks incredible considering its ageThe Bad:Acting has certainly improved since the 1930'sSudden endingThings I Learnt From This Movie:Though the body rots, eyes stay perfectly intactEven in the humble beginnings of horror cinema, the pets still had to die
Bearing in mind in which era this movie is made I can see that this movie has a cult status but masterpiece??? Nah!!! A masterpiece doesn't drag on and on and I literally fell asleep watching this movie. as I did want to see what this movie is about I re winded it but I still can't see what the fuss is about. It has good points as Boris Karloff as the Mummy. The story line and filming is not bad but this movie is just not scary and therefore not a horror movie. A good Thriller then??? Nope, for that the story line is not strong enough.Nosferatu, which is made 10 years before is a far better movie then this one, so it also has nothing to do with the era the movie is made. It just doesn't work for me.
As a long time fan of the Universal monster movies, The Mummy has been a favorite of mine for quite some time. Boris Karloff's portrayal was perfection. His stern gaze and wrinkled appearance gave me chills. My favorite shots of him were when he would use his powers to control or kill someone. The up close shot combined with the lighting playing with his eyes really magnified the significance of what was going on. The story was solid and explained how Imhotep came to be where he was, with some great story telling through the reflection pool. The only thing I could possibly complain about would be how the film ends. It feels like it was cut too soon and something is missing. Other than that, I say this is a film that speaks volumes over the ages as one of the original sound horror films.
