This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.

Let me be very fair here, this is not the best movie in my opinion. But, this movie is fun, it has purpose and is very enjoyable to watch.

Somewhere as a cross between heavy metal and fritz the cat, the main characters look a grungier version of characters from the Goofy movie. The film does have an impressive musical cast featuring songs by Cheap Trick, Iggy Pop, Lou Reed and Earth Wind and Fire to name a few. The plot takes place in you typical 1980's post apocalyptic world, but is quite easy to follow. The villain voiced by Don Francks gives off an almost David Bowie type performance, and sometimes the comic relief can be a bit unneeded. Would I suggest Giving this a watch sure, its an innocent enough piece of animation. That gives and great cast of musical talent.

It's 'Fritz the Cat' meets 'The Devil and Daniel Mouse' meets 'Heavy Metal' I was astounded at the level of animation and love that went into this film. I can't even believe that I had never heard of it before watching it now in 2016. It is absolutely 80's "retrotastic", with the soul of 'Fritz the Cat', the animation and story of 'The Devil and Daniel Mouse' and the atmosphere of 'Heavy Metal'. Anyone who loves the 80's and the animation it brought, of the likes of, Don Bluth, Ralph Bakshi and the team of animators from 'Heavy Metal' and the Nelvana animation production house, will love this film. Also, with Don Francks (Dr. Claw on Inspector Gadget 1983) as Mok; and Lou Reed as the singing voice in "My name is Mok", is freaking awesome.Cheap Trick also played many of the heavy tracks of the film which seals the deal with this film's immortality, and makes it a "must own" for 80's lover's. Gotta say if you love the 80's and have never seen it, why are you not watching it now. Seriously, wth are you waiting for.

I was really excited to discover another Animated Canadian movie because let's face it; there isn't much besides Heavy Metal and Care Bears. Unfortunately this movie isn't what I would call top notch entertainment. It had tonnes of potential but just fell short. I found that I was rushed through a lot of scenes that whizzed by so quickly I wasn't sure what I was supposed to get out of it. A lot of the best lines in the film were downplayed in an attempt to keep up the pace. This also caused a problem in the initial setup of the characters. There wasn't enough time spent on developing the characters, especially Omar. I liked him, but I certainly had no idea what he was about. Mok at least was a great villain, with an actual personality and everything. Although his motivation for his evil plot isn't mentioned anywhere. Generally Villains have a reason for being up to no good. The animation itself is really great. I enjoyed the silly and sometimes outright bizarre character designs. I especially liked Cinderella, although I spent a good deal of time thinking she would just fall over. there's a lot of weight to balance on those skinny legs. Sometimes however I found the movements of the characters to be stiff and lacking emotional expression (with the exception of the times they were high). The music of the film really is a highlight. The songs are all awesome. I have a special soft spot for "My name is Mok" It's just so wonderfully narcissistic. My only problem is that I think it is in the wrong place of the movie. It should have been closer to the beginning, as it seems to me like a song that was meant to establish his character.I felt that Rock and Rule had a lot going for it, but for whatever reasons it did not live up to it's potential. Technical gibberish aside, it is entertaining. So, if you're into 80's music and sci-fi movies, I would recommend watching this. Especially if you are an animation junkie like myself.phew, sorry it was so long!

Heavy Metal is one of my ALL time favorite movies. I was cruising the message boards on Heavy Metal and found a post that said "Rock and Rule vs Heavy Metal" I felt that I totally had to check this out. After watching it, i HAVE to say that this is an AMAZING movie.Though it does lack some, like for instance, the length of the movie was one of the things that made me kind of feeling disappointed, and the ending which I will not say. This is truly though a movie of Art.The animation is truly far greater than Heavy Metal, and this totally suites the status that Heavy Metal sure does. Anyways, enough comparing. MOK has to be one of the most frightening characters visually and audibly speaking. As well as the computer animation, completely art. You can find so much entity in this movie, be it evil and good. Particularly evil, because it in a way left me a little scared in parts. That is well done, especially if a PG rated cartoon can leave you a little frightened.HIGHLY recommended.
