The Worst Film Ever
Masterful Movie
Highly Overrated But Still Good
This film was horribly disappointing. I can't believe I actually sat through the full film. What bothered me the most about this film was that it was so clearly written by a man, for men. The director tried to push the idea that these two female characters were lovers through sexual scenes, but denied them any substantial character development or even dialog between each other. Their relationship was almost entirely for the male gaze. It is made known that the main character Sandrine had always been unhappy with her male partners and that she was quite obviously lesbian, but halfway through the film she was gushing over her sadistic boss. Just a few conversations with this creepy man and they were both LITERALLY ready to kill themselves, take a disgusting amount of abuse, and even forgive rape. At the beginning of the film, you get the impression of two strong female characters taking control of their lives and finding empowerment through their own sexuality, but that couldn't be farther from the truth. I am willing to forgive the horrible lines, unnecessary incest, and blatantly obvious foreshadowing, but the inconsistencies were unforgivable.
This is indeed twisted as another reviewer suggest. Right from the start there is something different. And I'm not talking about the staging of the first scene (which gets you in the mood for the rest of it, with its deception, although you will be able to see through it). I'm talking about a quiet figure in the background. More about that later, because the film does focus on one specific character who's also kind of narrating the whole thing. And while narrating might not be the best way to go, developing the story that is, it fulfills its purpose here. The young woman in question and a friend, will have quite a ride, with some nude and sexual scenes along the way. And while the drama is the focus point of it all, it does deal with where women stand in society and how they might be able to improve. Don't expect it to be too philosophical though (I personally would have liked that), but it does have an interesting personal story to tell ... with some extra flavor that it
This is another exceptional movie about two disillusioned women who go on a mission to get revenge on men, in the tradition of such classics as Thelma & Louise, and Baise Moi. But this isn't a road movie like the aforementioned, as much of the action takes place in the offices of high business, with sexual politics of the most extreme kind.In the tradition of modern French art house movies, there are some excellent performances, particularly by Coralie Revel & Sabrina Seyvecou in the two lead roles, and Fabrice Deville as the ultimate cold, calculating & power mad boss of the empire. The photography and editing are superb, and maybe one of the best touches of the movie is the inspired use of baroque music as much of the soundtrack.I'd rate this as one of the better movies in this particular genre. I gave it 9/10 - well worth seeing.
I saw this movie last night; my date and I couldn't help but laughing throughout as it was so entertainingly bad. First, the softcore male-fantasy component was utterly cliche; constant female masturbation, lesbianism for the benefit of male eyes, "the one masterful man who can give her an orgasm", etc., etc. Second, the main male character's lines were some insanely sophomoric De Sade pastiche; my favorite line: "Am I crueler than God, or Creation?" Third, what was with the woman shrouded in black and her death bird? I thought I was watching an early-90s goth-punk video. Every time I saw her I thought they should have flashed "FORESHADOWING" in big letters on the screen.Definitely see it for its unintentionally humorous badness.
