Must See Movie...
Absolutely brilliant
The movie is wonderful and true, an act of love in all its contradictions and complexity
It is a whirlwind of delight --- attractive actors, stunning couture, spectacular sets and outrageous parties.
The cast recognised as great characters in top box office movies are implementing themselves in their roles in this movie brilliantly. Love it! Watched it again and again and I see different angles every time. One of the most underrated movies I've seen x
Syd (Chris Evans) is depressed over his ex London (Jessica Biel). They were together for 2 and a half years having broken up 6 months ago. He crashes her going away party. He brings along drug dealer banker Bateman (Jason Statham). Rebecca (Isla Fisher) is throwing the party for her friend. Maya (Kelli Garner) and Mallory (Joy Bryant) talk to Syd as he recalls his life with London. George (Dane Cook) is a smart mouthed party goer. A big fight blows up the party and Syd ends up talking to London.I don't know why Statham has that hair piece. What's the point? It is horribly distracting. Chris Evans also has ugly hair but there's a reason for that. These are annoying, unlikeable, drugged up beautiful people talking about random drug induced stories. Sometimes the weird stuff can be funny like Statham's but the bickering is mostly annoying. Statham gives the most compelling performance. Syd and London's life together is unimaginative. They have bad chemistry. Also the movie is too stationary. Writer/director Hunter Richards needs to learn to add movement even in long dialog scenes.
For some reason I enjoyed this as much as I did THE RULES OF ATTRACTION and IN MEMORY OF MY FATHER (actually the latter is a FUNERAL movie, not a PARTY one, but...). I can't explain it. I just enjoyed the endless scenes of partying, drugging and drinking and wacky dialogue about pregnant rabbits, rice experiments and impotence destroying every aspect of a man's life.In short, losers at a party, bawling, fighting, reminiscing, and making complete asses of themselves. Chris Evans acts his hind-end off and is an absolute joy as he curses out his psychiatrist and later gets cursed out by Jason Statham, who is also a load of pure fun!!! Jessica Biel is good too, but really, Evans and Statham and their priceless banter are the reason this movie is fun to watch. The ending was a bit cryptic. This couple fought like dogs and cats, yet somehow, they truly loved each other. They had some kind of bond. It was touching while it was a bit baffling.
I only watched this cos I was bored and ended up loving it. It is by far the most realistic portrayal of drug users since Trainspotting. There is no misguided moral of the evils of drugs being rammed down your throat and the relationships are realistic enough for you to know this may not have a fairytale ending. Chris Evans is fantastic but it's Jason Statham who stole the show for me. These two worked well together, which was convenient as most of the film is cocaine induced dialogue between the two of them which is frighteningly realistic to anyone familiar with these types of drug fuelled rants. (Stathams psychotic outburst about why he split up with his wife being the stand out moment.)Well worth a watch, especially if you are able to relate to the state of existence Chris Evans character finds himself in.
