I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.
good back-story, and good acting
If the ambition is to provide two hours of instantly forgettable, popcorn-munching escapism, it succeeds.
It's easily one of the freshest, sharpest and most enjoyable films of this year.
No idea how it got such a high rating, maybe because it appeals to casual mainstream audiences who have very low standards and enjoy a few light hearted jokes here and there, to put it simply, it's not funny and it's not scary, unless of course you're a simpleton.
Yeah, it was cool.Would like it better if things turned out to be really supernatural. But this was a cool film to spend the evening. It's worth it. The house shown in the film was perhaps too small to have a secret dungeon - other than that, there was no defect in the film for a common watcher like me.
Housebound(2014) Starring: Morgana O'Reilly, Rima Te Wiata, Glen- Paul Waru, Cameron Rhodes, Millen Baird, Ross Harper, Bruce Hopkins, Ryan Lampp, Ian Mune, and Wallace Chapman Directed By: Gerard Johnston Review TERROR GETS DOMESTICATED Hello Kiddies your Pal The Crypt- Critic is so tired of seeing some of the most boring and uneventful horror films he at least tried to make himself laugh with a horror comedy. But I'm not even that in too horror comedy. When Kylie Bucknell is sentenced to home detention, she's forced to come to terms with her unsociable behavior, her blabbering mother and a hostile spirit who seems less than happy about the new living arrangement. It's getting real hard to do this hooptober with some ounces of bad slime that I've been reviewing, this film is a horror comedy which I didn't know going in, I laughed about once so you can tell it didn't achieve it's goal although some people actually like this more power to them I don't see the appeal. The acting is mediocre for the most part, it feels like a low budget lifetime special with cheap scares and no such thing as atmosphere. Atmosphere is a horror film's best friend and this film has none, I don't know if it's a dark satire or downright but then again the main reason I probably couldn't tell is because I was so bored I didn't care! Which is exactly how I felt throughout this film I didn't care for anything going on,nothing was exciting, scary, and I only laughed once. Housebound may have funny moments but not no good tone or clever writing to feel your in an enjoyable or dreadful environment. I'm giving it a one and a half out of five.
This movie turned out to be a frightfully delightful treat!! Wonderful chemistry, endearing pathos, refreshingly natural acting, ingenious camera work (did I detect a bit of a Sam Raimi homage going on?), and enough scary pop-ups to fulfill one's daily dose of cardio. And all of this cinematographic deliciousness served up without need of gratuitous sex, extraneous violence, or heavy-handed moralizing. My family and I (including youngsters) were charmed by this little gem (see wot I did there?). We shall certainly keep an eye out for upcoming projects by this talented writer/director (and his perfectly selected cast and crew).Watch it today. Then watch and enjoy it again.A true prize!!
