Entertaining from beginning to end, it maintains the spirit of the franchise while establishing it's own seal with a fun cast
It is not deep, but it is fun to watch. It does have a bit more of an edge to it than other similar films.
what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.
I expected to really dig this one as I am a 'animal-lover' (even though I think that term is corny) and a Drew Barrymore-lover alike (nothing corny about that term though). But this movie was way too cheesy at times for me, like randomly showing a bunch of American TV-viewers (ridicolously fraudulent) reactions to the news- stories about the whales being trapped and dropping absolutely everything just to tune in, as if nothing in else in their life mattered to them. And occasionally giving full focus on supporting characters that don't push the movie forward one bit and just take up running-time like colonel Boyer (played by Dermot Mulroney) and Kelly Meyers (played by Vinessa Shaw) instead of focusing on the main characters... and the whales of course. Not completely awful but we've seen the story before but in different settings or animals, not that all movies have to be original but it would have been nice if they'd cut out the cheese a bit from this one at least and focused on the things that mattered more and fleshed out the characters a bit.
This Movies Out Seem To Loven By Few People Trying To Save The Other Species As More Than Thinking Our By As Per Media TRP Upgraders Or Any Sources That They Could Get There Save Their Life. But As Usual Sooner Or Later People Awaken As Come As Possible To Save Them But In The End One Doesn't Come Alive. But Big Miracle Is That Hope That Some Thing Big Help Come In Their And The Few People Were Around Helping DestinedBig Miracle Is Loosely Based On A True Story And Utilizes TV News Clips From The Reagan Era That We Felt Made The Film Very Realistic. Ancient Traditions, Multi-Generational Challenges, Morality, Ethics, Friendship, Love And Social Responsibility Are Weaved Into A Story Set In Beautiful Alaska That Made Us Laugh, Cry And Cheer Along With The Characters - It Was A Fun Adventure Into A World We Didn't Know Much About
This is based on a true story of a family of whales stuck under the freezing ice in Alaska and what happens next. A local news reporter recruits his ex, a Greenpeace volunteer, to save the family of gray whales. Then the whole world started to notice and the world's media descends on them all.Drew Barrymore is a bit too annoying as a Greenpeace activist. She's too shrill and needed to tone down her performance. John Krasinski is great as the everyman. Ted Danson relishes his role as an oil tycoon a little too much. He may have been miscasted. Kristen Bell is good as the ambitious reporter.
The second grade Open Court textbook includes "The Story of the Three Whales." I thought I would show this movie as we read the story. I was dismayed to find that there were several uses of profanity in this movie, which I would rather not have when I am showing a movie to my students. Teachers should watch the movie first and decide if you want to show it.Further, there are, of course, many scenes that are not part of the story in the textbook, so you could skip over those if you decide to show it. It does carry a disclaimer about being inspired by a true story, so the movie never claims to be historically accurate.
