Good movie but grossly overrated
Instead, you get a movie that's enjoyable enough, but leaves you feeling like it could have been much, much more.
Exactly the movie you think it is, but not the movie you want it to be.
The movie's not perfect, but it sticks the landing of its message. It was engaging - thrilling at times - and I personally thought it was a great time.
It was a pretty nice movie, didn't except it, it was a parody of a lot of superhero movies such as spider-man and X-man and did it pretty well, it had a lot of "puns" that made it even more amazing, for the people that do get them. It even had casts from the famous parody movies "Scary movie",It even has Kevin Hart in its cast However, i t kinda sucks that this movie has only 4/10 rating, i think that it deserves way more than most of people think. I feel bad that there are movies out there that people give 10/10 ratings because everyone does, and no one even rates this amazing movie, i laughed at least 30 times, more than when i watched "Deadpool" Highly recommended
I like this movie. I won't shirk from it. For a start, the humor is good - and both in dialogue as well as through actions - it keeps its humor intact, while actually spotting out some rather witty interactions (the dinner scene for instance). Given that we had Kick Ass (2010) and the Spiderman movies (2002-2008) out around this time, and that the protagonist is likable in my opinion, with a clearly defined villain and a simplistic story overall, why would you rate it low? Let's be honest, it's better than Scary Movie 3 (2003), and it has much better entertainment value than Frozen (2013). And best part, it doesn't require you to think or be involved AT ALL - if nothing else, you are prompted to refer to the movies (which by the way, is a good quality of this movie - some of the movies it pokes at are good movies). In my opinion, give it a watch. I wasn't disappointed. And I've seen the epitomes of disappointment - Ark (2003) and Get Hard (2015).
This one is spoofing a lot on the Spiderman franchise as well plenty from every other superhero movie. Rick Riker (Drake Bell) is the geeky student. He is infatuated with fellow student Jill Johnson (Sara Paxton). Trey (Kevin Hart) is his best friend. They go to Lou Landers (Christopher McDonald)'s labs on a school excursion. There he is bitten by a mutant dragonfly. He lives with his uncle Albert (Leslie Nielsen) and aunt Lucille (Marion Ross) since he lost his parents. There are a lot of bad spoof movies these days. This one is the best of a bad lot. At least it's actually following a functional superhero movie story. And the best thing may be that it has Leslie Nielsen. Nobody can tell a deadpan joke quite like him. He still hits it out of the park time and time again. Drake Bell is not necessarily a good actor and the movie suffers because of him. It comes close but it's not good enough to recommend. The classics are still unsurpassed.
I'll make this review rather simple and keep each point brief. Just like the film itself....Tired humour: After seeing a lot of spoof films, I believe this film sticks to the genres standard formula. Something that, if this film didn't follow it, may have done it more justice. I've thought for a while that this genre of film needs some breathing space; after releases of other terrible titles such as: Meet the Spartans and Epic Movie. The jokes have become overused and I found myself almost tutting more than laughing. Casting is TERRIBLE: I myself, don't believe that Drake Bell and Sara Paxton's acting skills stretch to outlandish and ridiculous humour of say the likes of Anna Faris from the original Scary Movie titles. Since you spend the majority of the film dealing with them, it ended up being rather disappointing. The good cast of the film make brief appearances: I don't think ANY of the characters were utilised well in the film really. The funniest of characters played, what I consider to be, minor roles. Leslie Nielson and Regina Hall in particular. In that respect, if you're a fan of previous films like Scary Movie and see from the promo posters online and on the DVD cover that Regina Hall makes an appearance, please take note that it's a 2 minute one and was probably one of the only funny moments from the film. All in all, I would say avoid this one. It will be a wasted 80 minutes and if it's laughs you're after - you'd be safer watching Scary Movie again. 3/10
