Awesome Movie
A Disappointing Continuation
Great movie! If you want to be entertained and have a few good laughs, see this movie. The music is also very good,
I can't believe this movie got such a low rating, especially since I thought it was better than Inception. A scientist creates a device that a see into peoples memories. When the Department of Corrections hear about this they are interested. A convicted murderer jumps at the chance to be a volunteer. He wants to prove his innocence to the crime, and this would be the only way. He is a heroin addict, with a hard father, who confessed at the crime of killing his girlfriend. The reason for his confession was pressure by the detectives. Through the help of the scientist, he will remember the night of the murder, and find out who is really responsible. This movie is incredible, the only actor I recognized was Frank Ashmore. I hope this review helped I tried not to give away too much, a solid thriller you will be glad you watched.THX, Kris L. Movies like Extracted, have such potential, however mistakes in the story often become their downfall. Extracted is the story of a scientist who has developed a new technology, that allows him to temporary transfer his consciousness to another person. Once inside their head, he can see their memories and know their feelings. Of course the Government is interested in this technology for criminal justice purposes and pay the scientist to go into the mind of a murder suspect, to find out if he's guilty or not. Once inside, the scientist becomes trapped and must figure out a way to make the suspect aware of his presents, before he can figure a way out. The problem I had with this story is that the scientist becomes trapped the very first time he uses his invention. What scientist would ever use themselves as the guinea pig? Additionally, are we supposed to believe that the government would just drop a bundle of money on an untested technology? Once inside the mans head, we constantly see memories out of order and jump between scientist memories, suspect memories, and what's going on in the outside world, making for a very confusing film. Dominic Bogart stars as the suspect and really does a nice job, however the scientist, played by Sasha Roiz wasn't nearly as believable. Extracted had a great story to work with, but a mediocre star, with a confusing timeline, making it nearly impossible to follow. I loved the premise, the investigation was interesting, and Dominic Bogart was really good, but all those things weren't enough to save an otherwise confusing and uneven film.
Especially how IMDb rate it around 6, whereas it seems I'm not the only one to rate it 9+. Even more impressive, considering my jaded palette, but if I say that it manages to create fascinating sci-fi with a laptop computer and sticky tape, that is a compliment, because much as I love Arnold (and one more coming up it seems), thought provoking sci-fi/drama/thriller material is thin on the ground.Flawed characters caught in a web of bad decisions and dire consequences simply highlight the nuggets of humanity they reveal, and given that there's not one recognisable name (to me at least), the actors/director did a stand up job.The characters make sense, their decisions make sense, even their bad ones, and only the premise is best left only lightly examined. Really it is there only as a pretext for a web that could have been woven around an entirely non-sci-fi concept, and been delivered just as well. That is not a criticism, but a compliment.Excellent viewing, give it a shot.
This movie has a neat idea and premise going for it, but I can't help but wonder how this movie would have been if it had more budget to it. They did the best with what they had, but I think a good idea such as this needed a bigger budget. The plot is about a scientist named Tom that invents a machine that allows people to enter into other people's memories and figure out what is going on in there heads. It was first developed with the mentality of helping people with memory disorders. However because of the lack of funding he needs to rely on a anonymous investor. The first task is to go inside a guy who is convicted of homicide and drugs. Tom is in for something way more than what he bargained for. This movie is more than just a straightforward direction of entering into other people's memories, but it has more layers than that. Kind of like "Inception" like the layers in the dreams. This imaginative and creative ways of solving a mystery inside someone's head and unraveling by retracing the memories inside the human mind. And it's actually intelligently done. I heard this movie had to go through script re-write because of the budget issues. So with a bigger budget and a well thought out and integrated momentum and bit more action would have made this one really stand out. Not only that, even if it had a exceptional script and concept, the movie itself is just poorly directed despite it having good enough actors. I could tell why this movie inspired other movies like "Mindscape" which is basically a poorly done version of this movie. 8/10
