This is a dark and sometimes deeply uncomfortable drama

I enjoyed watching this film and would recommend other to give it a try , (as I am) but this movie, although enjoyable to watch due to the better than average acting fails to add anything new to its storyline that is all too familiar to these types of movies.

A clunky actioner with a handful of cool moments.

Allan (Cole Hauser) is having a bad day. His boss gave his promotion to a younger co-worker who stole his ideas. Allan goes home to find his wife sleeping with his best friend. Allan also has a shiner from making a bad bet and not being able to pay up. While guzzling JD at a bar he meets up with Jonas (Cuba Goodling) a Jose Cuervo man. Jonas tells Allan he is a hit man and has recently killed a conservative TV talking head. He asks Allen to make a list of 5 people he would want to have killed, and as his friend, Jonas will do it. Allen plays along, thinking this is good therapy, i.e. to make a list, but not really kill them. When Allen returns from the men's room, Jonas is gone with the list. By the time he gets to work the next day, his boss is dead. After the second person is killed we find out Jonas is terminal and has decided to do some free lance killing. During the movie Cuba talks in broad philosophical terms, while Allan wants to stop the insanity of all the killing. The movie is embarrassingly predictable. I don't recall Goodling having such a lame role. Clearly his acting abilities were wasted as his part was designed for someone who could read lines without having to feel them. Unconvincing is perhaps the word that best describes the movie.

The idea is peculiar, but logically and well founded, so the events following the meeting in the bar could actually happen. The value of the movie is diminished by the hit-man's past employers (another conspiracy theory?) and trivial/expected ending. However, the scenes around the people on the list are catchy to follow. An Oscar winner Cuba Gooding, Jr. (as Jonas Arbor) gives another great performance. As for the leading actor Cole Hauser (as Allan Campbell), he was good as well, although it was my first real experience with him (I realized that I have seen many movies with his participation, but never distinguished him). Other performances were nothing special or even mediocre.Nevertheless, The Hit List is recommended as a good and short (less than 1,5 hours) action. And, perhaps, the occurrence of bad jokes declines after seeing this...

Story/Plot - The idea of the film is mediocre. The plot is that a very unhappy and agitated man has a drinking session and thinks up a hit list of those he wishes to be terminated. Once he realizes what he has done he is forced to race against the clock to warn and hopefully save those that he has marked for extinction, but bodies are appearing and the blame is being pointed to him.My verdict - As mentioned by Steve N Allen on 107.5 Time FM, The Hit List is in fact rubbish. Actually it does not even deserve the word rubbish. I think absolute ball sack is more suited to this film. I really wanted to like this film but I just could not bring myself to. I will not be recommending this to anyone.

With all the production values of a 4th grade Thanksgiving play, the word "hit" has no place in connection with this movie. Stilted performances, poor lighting, and phony dialog makes it a candidate for MST3000.Cuba Gooding Jr. could have sent in a cardboard cutout and his performance would have been improved. All the actors came from the rejects of "My Mother the Car School of Acting." Show this movie to your kids if they want to be actors and tell them this is everything they should not do.Avoid at all costs. The fly on the wall has more redeeming qualities than this stinker.
