Sadly Over-hyped
Best movie ever!
Each character in this movie — down to the smallest one — is an individual rather than a type, prone to spontaneous changes of mood and sometimes amusing outbursts of pettiness or ill humor.
The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
If it wasn't for the fact that it had some decent actors in this, I wouldn't have watched it to the end. It just had no real story to it, other than than obvious...boy likes girl! It's a pretty bland flick for what it is, there's not a hell of a lot that captures you, the chemistry between Camille and Skylar is pretty minimal, it's there...but I've seen stronger connections in other similar movies with better plot lines. It's like hmm I like her, I do, but I can't really be bothered to do much about it kinda attitude from him and with her it's a pretty similar vibe. I've seen both of them in other movies and they excelled, so I really don't get the lack of commitment in chemistry in this! Other than that romantic side of it, there's nothing more to say, it's kinda just background noise the rest of it...which is just about watchable. They really could've done better with this!
One of the rare films where I fully agree with the IMDb rating. It's not crap, but it definitely is a waste of time. Nothing really stands out in either positive or negative terms. One of the countless similar mediocre love stories with attempts of humor.5/10
A story of four friends who loves to pick up women. Dean (Skylar Astin) is trying to make it as a screenplay-writer in Hollywood. He's struggling to come up with the perfect love story, because he's never been in love himself. I thought this movie was OK. Not a movie i'll remember for years, but not a movie i'd try hard to forget. It's a very predictable movie and everyone who's ever seen a love story before will understand what's going to happen, long before it does. Usually i would give this type of movie a 4/5, but there are some small, important details that drags it up from the bottom. I also think that Chad Michael Murray did a good job in his role as the womanizing bachelor who actually has a big heart.
Let's list the things we know. Things for which we have empirical evidence. 1. Your romantic comedy or your bromantic comedy will not succeed if Skyler Astin is your main male love interest. ( See 21 & Over, and Pitch Perfect( I didn't like it as much as everyone else))2. Being able to stand in front of a camera and look good doesn't make for good acting. (Chad Michael Murray). I will say that Camilla Belle does give it the "ol' college try" ( she is stunning). 3. If you're going to do a plot that's been done a hundred times, (especially recently with the rise of the Bromantic Comedy in film) you have to at least try something different that will capture the attention of the movie goer!4. Only in the movies can an average looking guy working in a dive bar bang hot chicks enough to grow weary of it. (Where do they come up with these characters?) This plot has been done enough for the whole thing to have become one big cliché'. Its' actors and actresses do not entice you to invest in their characters. The plot points are cheesy and predictable. And you are not given any reason to believe in the love of the two principle characters. At one point near the end of the movie, Jason Patric ( really, what is he doing in this movie? He was in Speed 2 for God's sake!) Throws a script at the main character Dean (Skylar Astin) and ask him to show him where the to leads fall in love.... He can't do it. How fitting it is that that script turns out to be this movie in some lame attempt to be Meta. I have to go because every minute I write about this movie, my rating drops. See it if you dare.... you'll hate yourself in the morning though.
