Very very predictable, including the post credit scene !!!
Good films always raise compelling questions, whether the format is fiction or documentary fact.
It's a good bad... and worth a popcorn matinée. While it's easy to lament what could have been...
The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
An NFL quarterback living the bachelor lifestyle discovers that he has an 8-year-old daughter from a previous relationship. The Game Plan is another great Family film for the whole family and works thanks to The Rock's and Madison Petti's chemistry that is adorable, dramatic and hilarious when it needs to be plus the film sends some great messages about Parenting and loving your kids and being there for them which is the classic Disney Magic as always. (10/10)
Joe Kingman (Dwayne Johnson) is big star quarterback, and unabashed bachelor. One day, little girl Peyton Kelly (Madison Pettis) comes and tells him that she's his daughter. His world is immediately turned upside down. It's a sit-com with sit-com level acting. It's desperate to get the sit-com laughs. All that's missing is the sit-com laugh track. The little girl has the charisma and the big personality. And it helps that she has a passing resemblance to The Rock. But neither she nor The Rock is terribly lovable in this movie. The idea that the little girl is so casually left to her own devices is very far fetched. It seems that all the adults are relatively nonchalant with checking the girl's story. Joe should be moving heaven and earth to track down the mother. And Paige Turco's character must have some adult supervision when the little girl gets to her destination. The whole thing is too flimsy. The final drive in the football game is wrong. It makes no sense. It's just a quick and dirty way to finish the movie. Sense has long gone from the movie. It's a weak sit-com premise. The leads are charming by themselves but none of the jokes work. It's a harmless family movie that'll be quickly forgotten.
So I decided to watch The Game Plan after hearing many good reviews about it when it came out. I forgot about this film and suddenly got it rented and shipped to me to watch. Now first of all I like the Rock and think that he will have a long career ahead of him. But I feel that this movie was somewhat a mistake for him. I wouldn't recommend this to any adult, unless they have a bunch of children and would watch it with them. There is nothing about this film that is original or clever. It has all the same clichés that all sorts of these truly dumb films have. It is really predictable and we see the Rock make a fool of himself in this film. The script is really stupid, the acting is atrocious, and all of the Rocks football teammates are completely unbelievable and pointless. I was not only embarrassed of how bad this was, but embarrassed for anyone involved in this garbage. The plot was really weird. Its about the Rock realizing that he has and 8 year daughter after she comes to his doorway one night. Then things take off from there, and the Rock's character Joe Kingman is a pro football player looking to win a title, while is daughter Peyton is a ballet dancer. Of course like all Disney movies there's the conflicts and problems, and a happy ending. There is no difference in this film. This goes to show that families are desperate to see something they can take their kids to, even though the parents are at a loss for words as to why this is funny to them. I wouldn't recommend this to adults, its more of a kids film.
The Game Plan is a rather silly movie about an arrogant football player who learns he has a daughter. Stupid concept, right? Right. The movie gets dumber and dumber. In the end, the kid gets an allergic reaction to peanuts and almost dies, but doesn't so The Rock gets custody of her and marries her ballet teacher. This movie was just very stupid, and set towards girls age 5 and up. You can tell that The Rock was put in the movie so families weren't totally turned off by it, which was sneaky and didn't work. I just do not like this movie, and don't think it deserves a lot of critical praise.3/10
