Fanciful, disturbing, and wildly original, it announces the arrival of a fresh, bold voice in American cinema.

If you like to be scared, if you like to laugh, and if you like to learn a thing or two at the movies, this absolutely cannot be missed.

This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.

I have to say, the karate kid we all know, can play guitar. I swear, from the moment he picked up that guitar, I was immediately blown away by his performance. I have never seen Ralph Macchio play a guitar or even an electric one before! Its funny when you realise, this underrated actors truly do have hidden talents!Joe Seneca really played well on the harmonica. I suppose he got someone professional to record the tune for him, but still, he managed to blow everyone away too! I didn't like the fact his character was so mean to Macchio's character by calling him horrible name like "The long Island Boy" or even "Lightening Boy". I honestly wish he used the other characters name, its awful irritating to realise an old man is calling a young boy names for absolutely no reason!I seriously wish Macchios character and Gertz' character ended up being together. I suppose they were the same age then but still, it would be so sweet to have them become a couple on this!If you feel like you're in a blues mood today, take a chance to look at this movie!

When I was a young teenager, I did not know much about myself or what hobbies I really enjoyed. It was not until I watched "Crossroads" (1986) that I developed this phenomenal interest and passion for the guitar. My guitar studies are an important part of my life. Subsequently, this movie changed me as a person and allowed me to live my life with a specific direction. Eugene Martone (Ralph Macchio) is a young classical guitar prodigy who has a strong underlying passion to play the blues. His vast knowledge of the Mississippi Delta Blues history and his desire to find a mythical lost song lead him to Willie Brown (Joe Seneca). He is an old living blues legend who is trapped in an old folks home and claims to know the lost song. The two blues-men adventure from New York to the Mississippi Delta to learn the lost song and, most importantly, to break the deal with the devil that Willie had made there many years before. The film encompasses two main philosophical ideas. One is the classic "Good will always prevail over evil," which is wonderfully portrayed in the epic guitar dual of good verses evil. Similar to the dueling banjos in "Deliverance", Satan's guitarist uses his heavy metal styling against Eugene's blues and classical talent. The other idea is about making smart decisions, which reflects on Willie Brown's unwise deal with the devil. The film does an exceptional job with explaining its perspective on the true feeling of the delta blues. In a very powerful scene Willie Brown explains, "The blues ain't nothing' but a good man feelin' bad, thinking' 'bout the woman he once was with." It also contains a supernatural aspect that creates a wonderful and very climactic conflict resolution with an uplifting feeling for the end of the movie. This movie is truly worth seeing. It will educate and entertain its audience.

I saw it long time ago, and since then I haven't been able to get it in the places where they sell movies............. ...or in the cinemas where a different alternative (Classic films). The content of the film is quite rare and that's why keeps you entertained all the time. Excellent music, story, actors. It Shows a lot of art and over-natural topics, some parts perhaps are "fantasy" but they way is shown in the film is such as natural that the person gets into the film and live it.Unfortunately it's not easy to get it in the country where I live but perhaps I will get this favor from a friend who lives in the countries where it is possible to have it.I say to everybody "enjoy this film because it's not just good, it's excellent"

I won't bother to detail the plot, because that's already been done here, but I will share my impressions of the movie: First off, the music was ridiculously good. The acting was a close second. Joe Seneca was splendid as the old bluesman, he was at his best when busting Ralph Macchio's balls for being from Long Island. Macchio himself was just okay, although he obviously learned how to play guitar for this movie. (It's Ry Cooder on the soundtrack and Vai stands in as a body double for the extreme closeups of Macchio's hands, but you can tell Macchio is playing the parts.) It was even a treat to see Alan Arbus, my favorite recurring character on MASH (Dr. Friedman) make an appearance. My favorite though were the actors who portrayed Scratch and his assistant. They both looked like the cat that ate the canary, like a couple of guys who love their job and are in on the joke. I'm going to have to go against the grain though and say I didn't like the climactic guitar duel. I've got nothing against Steve Vai, but the entire movie is about the blues, and at the end it emerges that the devil's house guitarist is a heavy metal clown, making stage moves that would look ridiculous even at a Def Leppard show. It was completely incongruous and hit a real sour note for me. But other than that, this movie is great, and a must-see for any music lover.
