It's fun, it's light, [but] it has a hard time when its tries to get heavy.

When a movie has you begging for it to end not even half way through it's pure crap. We've all seen this movie and this characters millions of times, nothing new in it. Don't waste your time.

A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.

Christine Jesperson (Miranda July) is a video artist desperate to get her work in Nancy Herrington (Tracy Wright)'s show. Richard Swersey (John Hawkes) is a recently separated shoe salesman with sons Peter and Robby. One day, Christine is driving her "Eldercab" to take Michael to buy shoes and Richard talks her into buying a pair herself. They begin a long hesitant romance. Meanwhile everybody they know is searching for connections in odd ways. Peter becomes entangled in Heather and Rebecca's sexual curiosity with Richard's boss Andrew. Robby gets into an internet sexual liaison with an unknown figure who turns out to be someone they know. Sylvie with her hope chest is infatuated with Peter. The two girls are the most shocking. Robby is the scariest. Peter and Sylvie are the most touching. With all these kids dealing with these adult situations, the leads' romance actually seems tame by comparison. It's odd that the central characters don't measure up to their costars but that's the case here. It's quirky and offbeat but I wouldn't call it charming. The movie threatens to go dark with the kiddie material but it backs off before it goes overboard. Miranda July and John Hawkes are doing some interesting acting. They are endearing in their own sections.

Me and You and Everyone Else We Know (2005): Dir: Miranda July / Cast: Miranda July, John Hawkes, Miles Thompson, Brandon Ratcliff, Natasha Slayton: Impressive debut for director Miranda July about connecting to others. She casts herself as a lonely artist whose mother is ill and her father accompanies her to a shoe store where she meets a salesman played by John Hawkes. He is separated with two children but he cannot function when July shows interest in him. His oldest son is targeted by two teenage girls who use him for sexual experimentation. His seven year-old discovers Internet chat sites, which leads to a few chuckles. When Internet chats become sexually suggested by an adult to two teenage girls then things can be divert but July handles the material like a pro and delivers a film of intelligent nature . July also goes further and acts in the film playing off Hawkes's romantic interest. July and Hawkes succeed because they are established with decent backgrounds thus presenting a starting ground to their meet cue. Supporting roles are also well written and provide perfect backup to July and Hawkes. Well crafted comedy that is much more honest than most mainstream films. This film addresses connection and relating to those around you or just casually within everyday routine. It is an excellent film and should be be recommend to me and you and everyone else we know. Score: 10 / 10

Indie flick lovers don't want to miss Me You and Everyone We Know (2005). Unknown Director and Writer Miranda July introduces Richard (played by the talented John Hawkins of Winter's Bone and The Sessions) and Christine (July) among several other unique and enriching characters whose own stories are as intriguing, relevant and compelling as the two leads. Me You and Everyone We Know is playful, whimsical and surprising - managing to keep your typical boy-meets-girl scenario interesting from beginning to end.At first, Richard's story comes second to that of his children. His two bi-racial sons (ages 13 and 6) are very close to each other, quiet and withdrawn. The two of them have become absorbed in unusual computer games and online chat rooms (likely coping mechanisms due to their parents recent separation). The situations the boys find themselves in are honest and real while also being slightly quirky and humorous. The youngest boy (Robby) is played by scene-stealing Brandon Ratcliff - whose character's delicate nature, curiosity and innocence are delightfully spotlighted in several funny and touching scenarios throughout the film. Richard is learning how to care and interact with his boys now on his own, in a whole new (and single) life when he crosses paths with Christine for the first time.Christine runs a shuttle service for the elderly and meets Richard (a humble shoe salesman) when she takes one of her clients out to get new sneakers. Even though the two of them only exchange a few sparse sentences, she's hooked and awkwardly seeks him out the following day. She lovingly stumbles through attempts at flirting and conversation making their journey all the more true and likable. Christine is also a contemporary artist and her work - full of love and poetry - help viewers learn more about her and move the plot forward in a unique way.Me You and Everyone We Know is clever and fresh with familiar movie characters that are crafted with surprising twists. It's an indie home-run bound to be a cult classic. Without giving too much away, viewers should watch this film just to find out the significance of the words, "Back and forth. Forever."

I know I'm probably in the vast minority, but I really didn't think this film was all that great.I understand that "MAYAEWK" was meant to be kind of a sociological study of how people relate (or, completely don't) to one another. Having said that, I don't think that alone can carry a full-length movie. A full length movie generally requires a plot to make it work; unfortunately, this movie doesn't have one.In fact, this film felt like a disjointed compilation of really corny student films where the actors make cryptic metaphors, perform nonsensical stunts, and say or do so-called shocking things merely to make the audience think, "Wow! This film is SO poignant and edgy!" Yawn.I found myself watching this movie waiting for the punchline or, at the very least, some kind of resolution to the characters' stories, but there weren't any. In the end, the shoe salesman and artist never go on their date, we never find out why the little girl keeps a dowry, we never find out why the man who left signs hides when the teenage girls go to his door, etc.To me, the reasons behind why the characters act the way they do is 1000% more interesting than merely presenting a superficial view of how they act. I felt kind of betrayed when I made it to the end of the movie and thought, "That was it? That was 'one of the year's best films' according to Roger Ebert?!" It was kind of like waiting in a line at an amusement park only to get to the end and realize that the line WAS the attraction; such a letdown. At best, the movie is mildly entertaining because of the weird things the characters do. The little boy's "poop back and forth" scene truly was priceless, but in the end, that doesn't save this plot-less pointless movie.D+
