The Worst Film Ever
Please don't spend money on this.
Captivating movie !
This movie was so-so. It had it's moments, but wasn't the greatest.
I was seriously surprised to see that a thinking actor like Aamir Khan could not pick a better theme than the ghost of an unfortunate prostitute stalking and romancing him as the subject of this movie! Even though he is one of the most accomplished actors in Hindi cinema ever, his movies somehow tend to be rather boring and hard to watch. On a more positive side, Kareena Kapoor looks ravishing in the movie and carries her role with great finesse. Rani Mukerji is brilliant and solemn in her role, and to give due credit, Aamir plays the touchy, sensitive role of a tormented father with great conviction and aplomb. Too bad the script and theme are wafer-thin, and do not require a 3-hour movie to unfold without much intellectual enlightening or entertainment value.
This movie is a lot like lost. It seems like it is building up to some epic conclusion, with a brilliant set up to the ending. It does a great job of setting up a murder mystery and keeping the viewer engaged with a decent plot. That is, a decent plot until the ending. When I was expecting some brilliant explanation to how the murders took place, all the film could come up with is BECAUSE GHOST. Sure that's fine for a horror film or a film based in some fantasy world with well defined parameters, but when a director bases his film as a murder mystery in the real physical world this is basically the worst cop out imaginable. The ending ruins the entire film. Not worth watching because of this.
Reema Kagti's previous film 'Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd' was a thoroughly enjoyable viewing experience. However, the same cannot be said about 'Talaash'. To start with the flaws, it gives the impression of being a thriller until the very end when it turns out to be something else. Even though the Shernaz Patel track is thrown in every now and then to hint towards the end, it feels somewhat forced. 'Talaash' also tends to spoonfeed the viewer. Considering the tone, some mystery would have worked in its favour but instead it attempts to answer all questions. The pace is also slow at times. As for the plusses, it's a well crafted film. Cinematography, lighting and art direction are first rate. The characters are well written (except for the Frenny character). The performances are splendid especially that of Rani Mukherjee and Nawazuddin Siddiqui who are superb. Aamir Khan does a decent job. Kareena Kapoor is average at best.Despite its many flaws, 'Talaash' is still a watchable film. I didn't find it boring at any point. There's something intriguing about the characters, including the minor ones that draws your attention.
Indian Film Makers should make more Thrillers/Suspense movies.I personally liked this movie. The story is the strength of it.Acting was excellent by all the cast, specially I liked the character Taimur played by Mr. Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Amir was also excellent. The story around Rani and her son needed more focus.I felt it was incomplete. However, the climax was dull, could have been presented in a smarter way.Found some similarities with a Hollywood movie. After all, We do expect a little more from "Amir Khan"Overall, very much enjoyed it.
