Memorable, crazy movie
Although it has its amusing moments, in eneral the plot does not convince.
The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.
I usually only review movies I really didn't like so I can complain about them so here it goes. This movie tries so hard to be philosophical and deep and whatnot but it's very shallow and nothing new. The entire plot is so recycled. I know it's set in the 80s but the homophobia is unnecessary and irritating. I also didn't sympathise with the characters at all: the girl (who is so forgettable I don't even remember her name 5 minutes after watching it) is cruel and selfish and he is a wannabe. He's awfully pretentious too. The good thing about this movie is the camera work. It otherwise just tries too hard and achieves nothing but my boredom.
A mother explaining to her kid about her being *adventurous* but not *adventurous enough* with the neighbor, while the father manages half a grin at the possibilities that she did not explore. A kid romanticizing life as well as death. Don't we all! This is a beautiful story and the first para here does not even give away the one in top 10 of the story's best parts. So many of us believe that we are older in thoughts than in our age ( Side Note - till we actually become old and pretend to be younger). The movie magnifies the thoughts that a precocious child, or so he thinks he is, goes through. Given our likely disposition to overestimate ourselves, the movie is both funny and nostalgic in a very relatable way!
I am not a big fan of love story, but this one is really jaw- dropping. It is directed by Richard Ayoade, it stars Craig Roberts and Yasmin Paige in the title role as the teenagers. The film consists of several parts: prologue, part two and part three. The plot revolves around two teenagers. Oliver Tate(Craig Roberts) is very non-standart. He imagines how other people will mourn his premature death, although in fact he is not popular. He fells in love with Jordana Biver(Yasmin Paige). She suffers from eczema and hates so-called romance. Also Tate wants to save his parents' marriage. The film is very exciting, emotional and maybe a little depressing. There is an uncertain end and you can think it out yourself. And also there is very cool music in this film. The songs for this film were written by Alex Turner, the guitar player of "Arctic Monkeys". The film was highly rated by film critics. If you love drama stories, this film is definitely for you.
Submarine (2010), is a foreign film directed by Richard Ayoade, starring Craig Roberts. The film sets place in Wales, and follows the life of a young man named Oliver Tate. Throughout the film, Oliver struggles with attempt to achieve popularity, a decent family life, and to be the world's best boyfriend. The film itself is filmed very artistically and with a simple style with lots of cuts, hues of different colors, and references to art & music. The performance within the film was nothing out of the ordinary but was portrayed very well regarding vital circumstances in certain scenes. To me the film was memorable and entertaining, creating very unique characters that could only be seen within traditional literature. The music was phenomenal, featuring the Arctic Monkey's Alex Turner's lullaby-like voice along with some beautiful melodies for those in love & the broken hearted. The film deals with the development of Oliver and his struggle to maintain his parents marriage and to understand the responsibilities of his own relationship. The film gave off a feeling of nostalgia for one's first love and heart-break. It helps the audience recognize moments when we are wrong, the mistakes we've made, and understand the things that cannot be undone. Overall, the message of the film is for one to attain individually. But for me I've learned we must appreciate what have, and what we once had. To appreciate how good & bad things can be. To appreciate the sacrifices we make for others and those which they make for us. We must learn to love, as much as we must learn to forgive. 7.5/10
