Just perfect...
Good concept, poorly executed.
Fun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.
This film is so real. It treats its characters with so much care and sensitivity.
Hollywood used to make fun of blacks, Arabs, Asians, Indians, fat people, even women. They rarely touched white men or Jews. Now white men are fair game, and there is an overwhelming propaganda against them. All the other categories of people organized themselves and they often raise a big stink when media even alludes they might be less then perfect. So, yes, this is what annoys me most about the movie. The clumsy propaganda. It goes along the lines: white men have mercilessly murdered everyone, mistreated (by mistreated I mean brutally beaten and raped) their women and they deserve to be hunted down and killed like beasts. Worse even, the only black dude in the movie is a whining lover of that poor mistreated white woman, whose purpose in the movie is to give this message: "see, white animals, your women can't stand anymore your pasty evil ways and will find better and more sensitive lovers in black men who really know what a woman needs." Other than that, the characters are paper thin, there isn't much characterization, and they are unrealistic. The hillbillies speak a too perfect English, the black dude is a woman's wet dream, and the only woman in the movie is resurrected as an amazon -- another piece of feminist propaganda. The problem with the character is that it's so hard to care for them. A good horror spends more time with the characterization, and less with the blood and guts. And it pays off, because you watch differently the disembowelment of someone you come to like or hate than that of someone you don't even know how it appeared in that scene.Still, I liked a lot the fantasy atmosphere towards the end of the movie, which is why I give the movie its stars.
Avenged is nothing more than a decent low budget revenge horror film. That's fine. I like this stuff. I don't even care if it's a ripoff of "I Spit on Your Grave," with Native American supernatural forces mixed in. I've always found that stuff to be hokey, but I'll go along for the ride. The story is quite familiar, but who cares, it's cheap horror. The characters are reasonably well developed for this genre, although the acting is spotty enough to knock the movie down a peg. The art direction is mostly good and the lighting is effective. The cinematography is fairly good most of the time, but too often, seriously betrays the film's low budget. The gore effects and CGI are good enough, considering. I could have enjoyed the movie and given it 4 stars for being above average and reasonably entertaining. But I'd bet my right eye that the 5 star reviews (9-10 stars on IMDb) are written by people with some connection to the filmmaker. This movie is just too flawed, in really big, obvious ways for that many people to love it that much. So watch it if you want, but I'd recommend lowering your expectation if you don't want to feel cheated at the end, as I and most of the honest reviewer were.
SAVAGED is nothing more than a supernatural spin on the I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE storyline. A deaf-mute girl is travelling by car through the desert when she accidentally witnesses a murder committed by a gang of thugs. With no intentions of letting her leave alive, they take her back to a house where she is raped and abused, before finally being killed in an escape attempt. At this stage the story begins properly. The girl is brought back to life by a Native American shaman while the spirit of a long-dead Native American war chief hops on board. From then on it's an orgy of mean-spirited violence as the girl goes on an odyssey of vengeance and gruesome, body-mangling horror. To add to the gore effects, she's a literal shambling corpse, her body gradually breaking down thanks to the effects of the plot events.SAVAGED is a pretty typical but well made example of this revenge-horror genre. The gore effects are plentiful and only tempered by some less-than-impressive low budget CGI which could have been done without. The script is lean and pared down, focusing on the action which is always a plus, and Amanda Adrienne gives a heartbreaking performance as the put-upon girl. Not exactly an enjoyable movie, this, but an entertaining experience all the same.
Whoo... That was something. When i started watching this i had no idea that its gonna blow my mind into millions of pieces. Everything in this movie was just beyond imagination because of flawless performance by Amanda Adrienne. I am her new fan starting today. I am overwhelmed by the cinematography and effects. I was like WTF when i saw that first kill, i have seen thousands of kills in movies with lots of special effects but i have to say this was the best of all. Amanda did a splendid job playing the deaf girl in town. The way she was killing those f***kers was awesome. The way they r**ed and wronged her was horrible and intolerable, But she did what she had to do what she was meant to do.I don't believe that this movie is so underrated. I guess its because of the ending. I don't like it either, her boyfriend just burned her like nothing. And to think he spend many days finding her and when at last he did, all he could do was burn her to dust? Are you fu***ing kidding me!!! He should at least have said a proper goodbye with a nice hug or something. That was something i didn't expected, to be honest the whole movie was unexpected for me. Anyway we can hope she saved lots of other girls in future(who might become their next target) by finishing the bastards for all eternity.Really man i am impressed... Respect for the main cast and all the people who made such a MASTERPIECE.10/10 (Great casting, great cinematography, great effects, great story)
