Absolutely Fantastic
The film makes a home in your brain and the only cure is to see it again.
Funny, strange, confrontational and subversive, this is one of the most interesting experiences you'll have at the cinema this year.
An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.
It is not easy to say something precise about it. if you say than it is a bbad movie, you are right. if you say than it is a spectacular film you do not are wrong. because it is a salad with too much ingredients. too many flavours. sure, martial arts and memories about so many films and Rusell Crow and Lucy Liu ( and the mind to the scenes from Kill Bill ) and influences of western and a mythology in balance between Chinese fairy tales and stories about modern heroes. but, after its end, all sems just a pretext for propose an exuberant show about...nothing. sure, Hamlet and Lord of the Ring and Tarantino and Marvel in a huge package. but something missing. nothing clear. maybe coherence. maybe most accuracy of confrontations to the model. sure,, only details. significant, yyet.
This movie is very far fetched, and anachronistic in clarity. It does get better as time progress but at some point near the end you will be relieved when it is finally over. There is sex and profanity but that seems to be dull compared to all of the cartoonish gore. The plot and writing style and the sprinkle of celebrity appearances will probably keep you hanging on for as long as you can bear. There is a point in the movie that I consider a shift and a surprising element you might find that to be of some entertainment. the action goes from worse to extraordinary at some points so I again encourage you to hang out for those parts. This film is bound to at least give you a chuckle at the beginning.
The Man With the Iron Fists (2012): Dir: RZA / Cast: RZA, Rick Yune, Russell Crowe, Lucy Liu, Jamie Chung: The title regards power and that power is no more exercised than when anyone had the sense to get up and walk out of this circus wreck. RZA stars as a blacksmith and he also directs this garbage and it comes off as a really bad music video. RZA makes weapons in hopes of paying for the freedom of his Asian girlfriend. He ends up having his arms cut off but is tidied up and two iron hands are made that seem to move like actual hands, which makes no sense. Rick Yune is out to avenge the death of his father but ends up getting his ass handed to him by a guy who can turn into solid gold. Russell Crowe enters the picture as a western fighter named Jack Knife and he has a weapon that is half knife and half gun. He helps RZA get patched up and sets to fight this mindless war. Lucy Liu plays Madam Blossom who runs a brothel where much of the action, both violent and sexual, takes place. This is absolute garbage right down to its music video style fight scenes. Why Crowe is embarrassing himself with this crap is a surprise in itself. His first scene has him cutting up a guy called Crazy Hippo. Jamie Chung plays a prostitute whose biggest shame is being part of this pathetic piece of dog sh*t. The special effects are passable but it seems like the screenplay is just one stupid gory stupid fight after another. The best thing to do with this pointless charade is to destroy it using any number of the weapons that the blacksmith manufactures to use on people. Score: 2 / 10
Chaotic mess. Random plot, silly dialogue, wooden performances. Fight scenes are your standard martial arts fare, ie well-choreographed and ridiculous. Russell Crowe and Lucy Liu are only there to give the movie star power. Even they seem to be just going through the motions. Crowe is also let down by having some of the dumbest lines in the movie, and having to put on a really silly accent. Goodness knows why he took the gig - maybe he needs the money. Don't be fooled by the "Quentin Tarantino presents..." in the title. He has nothing to do with this film, and will endorse any movie. (Seriously, I don't think he's ever disliked any movie). Give it a miss.
