I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.

My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic is an adorable TV show that attracted an audience beyond its intended target group. It's been embraced by boys and adults as well as the teen girls that traditionally played with My Little Pony toys, mostly because it's more of a character driven show and has some catchy tunes.Because of its massive popularity, it's no surprise that it should spawn spin-off movies. These came as the 'Equestria Girls' series, where the ponies are cast into an alternate dimension where they manifest as human girls. So in this movie we get to see the beloved pony characters in human form. The story mostly focuses on how Twilight Sparkle struggles to understand the human world, walk on two feet and use her hands to move objects instead of her magic horn. The other ponies don't do dimension jumping, their alternate world counterparts were always humans and Twilight is the only one to cross from world to world.Suitable for fans of the show, 'Equestria Girls' is similar to the two-parter season finales of the TV shows. These usually introduce some kind of evil villain who threatens the safety of the pony world and must be made to see the light of friendship. The same happens in 'Equestria Girls'. This time the villain is literally a bat-winged, red-eyed demon. But what's the point of making ponies into humans? Why, to sell more toys of course.

Who even thought this was a good idea? Was there really someone who thought that My Little Pony would be better if it were humans in a high school? I feel kind of weird criticizing a cartoon for little girls, but I'm not sure if this was made for little girls. The TV show knows what it wants to be: a well-made animated series for children and their parents. This movie could just as easily be made for teenagers, or bronies, or to attract new fans. Since it can't choose its audience, it fails to appeal to any of them. Don't get me wrong, I can see why some people would like this, but I wasn't personally a fan. The characters still seemed to be keep in character with the show… while making horrible decisions. The animation was amazing during the pony segments… but was awkward in the human world. Meanwhile, the villain was bland, the romance was forced and never went anywhere, and the entire movie just felt like a mess. At least they somewhat improved it in the sequels, but I'll get to those at another time.

Since two thousand and ten, MLP:FIM is many people considered a masterpiece of flash animation. Definitely not your average flash animation from Newgrounds. This show proves that friendship is a powerful weapon. Even if Lauren Faust said that she wanted this show to be for little girls. But getting its self a fan base is even better. This is the reason why I wanna try flash animation in a new way. But, as popular as it gets, some people wouldn't be surprised if these ponies went off the high school.I'm not saying it's a bad film, but I just wished it could've been a bit more clever. But it does give Twilight Sparkle a specific goal. She doesn't just recover crown from a former student of Celestia's, but to take friendship to a whole new level. Twilight has always been my favorite character. I can relate to her at times. You would want to stand with her, she has a reason to inspire those who believe in magic. But back on to the film, I had a bit mixed feelings about it.The Story: It's smooth enough, even if got a bit random in the climax. The Animation: It's well crafted, but the designs to seem a bit hit missed at times. But it's still harmless to look at. Plus, they did keep the ponies designs in the beginningThe Characters: Twilight and the Mane Five are still the same, and we love em. The principals of CHS seem okay but make feel like they've never been in charge of high school before. The villain is okay too, but most people would never get the rest of her origins other then she was a former pupil back in Equestria. The boyfriend does seem a bit of a pointless cliché, he's only seen for short times. But to his credit he does seem like good gentleman for a princess. Just be lucky that he didn't show up in the real show. The Songs: I find most of them quite catchy and reasonable, my favorite happens to be Strange New World. It's nice to see someone singing a characters thoughts again, since Phil Collins' song Strangers Like Me in Disney's Tarzan. Even if the lyrics are a bit simple. The Rules of Magic: When people first saw the magic moments in the climax, they kinda had no idea why that happen. But from what I can gather I guess is that Sunset had no control of the magic in the crown, so she pretty much didn't know how to use it. And yet, she was happy with her demon form. I was like a side affect. As for the transformation of the mane six, they were like magnet for the element of magic. Twilight would say that the magic contained in her element was able to unite with those that helped create it. So maybe the humane five represent them? Maybe. But the ending does still seem a bit random. Either way, I still kinda enjoyed it.The MLP series could've been better off without a spin off, but for what is, it's actually kinda good. I wouldn't call a masterpiece like the actual show, but it does seem decent enough to be magical as always. Some fans may love or hate this, they all have opinions. But that's pretty much the end of this review.Try to check it out, it might be your cup of tea.

This movie is not a masterpiece nor is it an abomination of storytelling. It's a fun romp of a film that acts as a fitting tribute to the series it's based on.The characters are just as enjoyable here as they are in the main show. Despite the setting change, the characters are still the same characters we've come to know and love over the past few years. While a few of the new characters leave some to be desired, it's still incredibly enjoyable to see the characters we've come to know be placed in a different environment. It's also lots of fun to point out and catch all of the references to the main show as well as see various supporting and background characters being re-imagined in human form. The animation and music are still top notch. Out of the six songs in the film, only one fell flat for me. The rest are, in my personal opinion, really enjoyable and pretty catchy.Don't go into "Equestria Girls" expecting a masterpiece or an epic adventure. Go into it expecting a fun, character-driven story with good animation, catchy songs, funny jokes, and fun references. I'd recommend this to any fan of the show. It's not perfect but it's not horrible either. It's a good, entertaining, fun ride that I think any MLP fan can enjoy if they give it a chance.
