Overrated and overhyped
It's a movie as timely as it is provocative and amazingly, for much of its running time, it is weirdly funny.
The thing I enjoyed most about the film is the fact that it doesn't shy away from being a super-sized-cliche;
It's a feast for the eyes. But what really makes this dramedy work is the acting.
It seems, at first, as if this movie will be a character study of a weatherman suffering some kind of mid-life crisis. He loses interest in his wife and begins cheating on her with their young son's nanny. This leads to the film's one funny gag: While the wife and her son go on a ski vacation, the philandering weatherman is free to be with the nanny. But a blizzard threatens to cut the wife's vacation short, so the weatherman starts giving deliberately misleading forecasts in which he promises that the weather will soon turn bright and sunny in hopes that his wife will see them and stay away for one more day.And that's about it for any really funny gags. After the wife confirms her suspicions that her weatherman husband is cheating on her, she dumps him. The movie then shifts focus to the spurned wife's efforts to find love with someone else. Which she does, almost immediately.In fact, everything seems to go quite well for everybody in this film. The focus drifts from one easygoing character to the next and the whole pointless story just rolls along almost devoid of conflict.Many of the scenes seem to be there either to illustrate how quirky the otherwise completely undeveloped characters are or to showcase cute moments with small animals.It all adds up to pretty well nothing in the end.
