Highlander: Endgame

Immortals Connor and Duncan Macleod join forces against a man from Connor's distant past in the highlands of Scotland, Kell, an immensely powerful immortal who leads an army of equally powerful and deadly immortal swordsmen and assassins. No immortal alive has been able to defeat Kell yet, and neither Connor nor Duncan are skilled enough themselves to take him on and live. The two of them eventually come to one inevitable conclusion; one of them must die so that the combined power of both the Highlanders can bring down Kell for good. There can be only one... the question is, who will it be?

It's easily one of the freshest, sharpest and most enjoyable films of this year.

Highlander! Swords! Dudes fighting with swords! Sometimes the sword fighting men have witty things to say, other times when they are sword fighting they have serious things to say, see so its juxtaposed, which is also the name of an art magazine. I am not too particularly fond of the word "juxtaposed", it sounds stupid to me, here is where I can reveal that. You know what's missing from Highlander movies? It's not swords, I think we call all guess that. No, what it probably is is ice cream, not enough scenes involving ice cream. My favorite right now is pistachio, first of all it's usually a lovely pale green, then it hits you with that weird savory sweet flavor, plus there's nuts! Movie reviewed.

Connor Macleod is back, and this time he's brought the English bloke from the TV series with him. When his friend Rachel is killed, he gets all misty, and goes to a place called The Sanctury, which is like The Colony from Double Team. Then the confusion kicks in, which is just what you'd expect from a Highlander movie. You see, Lambert killed Bruce Paynes dad, so Payne has taken his time getting revenge, and now wants it. He has a few hench men, and Paul is along for the ride, because the show was quite successful.Immortals are not supposed to age, but what really distracts you from the film is how different Lambert looks in this dreadful movie. It's not the fact that he's aged, it all happens to us, but its the fact that he looks like he has a rare skin condition, and it really takes you away from the paper thin narrative. If you've seen Bruce Payne in any other film, you know that he is a pantomime villain, but he is the best thing in this, and really lifts the film whenever he's in it.Paul is in it for no other reason than to fight Lambert, and for both Highlander completists, this is something big.For everyone else though, its a really poor sequel to an average film, with trashy effects. At least Highlander 2 was funny....

I am definitely biased when it comes to my review of this film. I am a fan of the first movie, fan of the TV series (minus a few poorly done episodes), and will watch anything that has the character "Methos" in it. This movie will be hard to follow if you haven't watched previous Highlander movies and/or the TV series. Recently my girlfriend purchased all of the seasons of Highlander and we just now finished watching them. We also just watched the first movie again. So I have a unique perspective. I have the original movie and the series still fresh in my memory. I think that Highlander fans love the concept more than the plot of the Highlander franchise. The idea of living forever while having a vintage style of dress and manners is of great appeal to us. But I also notice that many critics of this film didn't see the second and third movie. Those movies didn't do a good job following the first movie either. But this film mainly follows the TV series, not the first movie. I am one of those people who really liked Highlander: Endgame. The movie does a great job mixing the characters from the first movie and the TV series. When I started watching the movie I was thrilled to see Peter Wingfield and Jim Byrnes in the credits. These were two great actors from the TV series. Sadly Methos had a small part in this film. He is one of the greatest, yet wasted characters of television history. Still, I'm glad he was featured in this film. Sadly, this film still can't shake some of the corny effects and additions that Panzer and Davis add to each movie. Just like the first movie, the main villain is often overacting. The final quickening is lame. Someone needs to tell Panzer and Davis that the 80's are over with. Still, this film let us see what the TV series would have been like with a bigger budget. I have also been told that the Director's Cut does a better job of developing the characters. But this movie isn't for people who aren't Highlander fans. It's also not for people who hated the TV series. It's for die-hard fans.

Did 'Highlander' really need this sequel? To be honest, I was thrilled when I saw trailer for the film. It seemed plausible and exciting. But, after the film, I didn't felt that satisfied. It wasn't good in many ways, at least, it's better than "The Quickening" and "The Source". So, let's check this out.In way, this was an attempt to connect, or to mix the movie franchise, starring Christopher Lambert and TV series, starring Adrian Paul. For ever reason that might be... I think that Lambert didn't want to do Highlander anymore, so I think they decided to make Duncan Macleod a focal character here. The story and the idea is just a mess. I don't know if the director, or script writers saw any of the previous films, or any of TV series. There are so many holes in the plot and in the original idea, that makes this movie very cringing. Characters are dull, or nothing special. The plot is just... Moving. Yep, that's all. Nothing exciting happens, just dull changes that basically ruined 'Highlander'original story.Acting is boring and hilarious. Our leading heroes Connor and Duncan played respectively by Lambert and Paul... Lambert was pretty much OK, but dull and with his usual raspy, monotone voice. On occasions, you can see that he doesn't care about this film, nor his character anymore. Paul was kind of ridiculous, and I don't know which accent he tried to pull off. Is it Scottish, or American-English? But, the worst thing is that he was dubbed by other actor in few scenes. That sounded terrible. Bruce Payne as Jacob Kell (again, the villain with K in his first name, or last name. This tradition of Highlander 'K' named villains is getting pretentious) was the most brightest spot about this film, his performance was just over the top and ridiculous. And no matter how bad, or campy it is, you kind of enjoy it. But, this film could have easily ended his career. Lisa Barbuscia plays a girl named Kate, or Faith... Or whatever her name is. She is a love interest of Duncan, but, she wasn't anything special in her performance, or character. But she was physically hot. We also have Methos (Peter Wingfield) and Joe Dawson (Jim Byrnes) here, from the series. But, they also given us - nothing new. I think they were far better in the series, although I have seen few episodes. Also, one of the most interesting thing about this film is Donnie Yen, who steals the show with his martial arts skills. Yen is the only one in the film who didn't disappoint in any moment. The action scenes were good. The fights are better, faster and more dynamic and well-choreographed. I must admit, this "Highlander" holds some the best sword fighting scenes ever. In first "Highlander" films, they were kinda slow and not that quite exciting.I understand that this movie pretty much hard to watch, especially for fans, but I kind of enjoy it. Of course, that doesn't change the fact the movie really is bad. Other things as soundtrack is not bad, editing is bad, camera work is OK, CGI - horrible, script was funny and other things are passable. Another thing that is pretty bad is that the trailer shows scenes which didn't appear in the final film. And there were other versions of the film, where they filmed different scenes... No wonder the final print looks like a mess. Oh, to mention, there is a sex scene. So, they kept the tradition too. Good! I don't recommend this film that much. I give it 5 stars out of 10, because I really enjoyed it. I praise Bruce Payne's hilarious performance, action scenes, Donnie Yen and a sex scene tradition.
